After years of research and circumstantial evidence, I pinpointed what I believed to be the ancestral location in Ireland for my family. I found a man with the same name in the area who agreed to take the Y-DNA test. As the results came back, we matched exactly at 12 markers....

What might be the reason that a person has just full mtDNA matches (HVR1 & 2 plus coding region), but no lower matches at all (HVR1; HVR1&2). This is not quite logic.

Does anyone know if it's possible that my family finder results would only reflect my father's side? Is it possible that none of these come from my mother's side?

I have emailed all the participants on my matches listing (Exact and otherwise) who have the same surname as me. About half of them have replied and of those, only one or two seem to be possible relatively recent relatives. I'm wondering if it's worth emailing the ones who don't share the same surname...

I've got a couple of 37 exact matches, one with a surname that is likely mine (I was adopted) and one with connections to the first surname and from the same area.

That surname indicates strong welsh/scots background but I don't show much from that in the ancestral origins charts in...
