J1 Z1842 is found densely in the Caucasus, and also in northern Iraq and Syria, and thinly throughout Europe.
If you are J1 but have not tested any SNPs and have the STR DYS388=13, you probably belong to the Z1842 branch.

New Family Tree DNA project for Y-DNA J1 Z1842

Look at the surge in kit sales around Mother's Day and Father's Day. Many of these kits must be unwanted gifts. When the results come in, the recipient doesn't take the time to understand them, and probably never looks at them again.

Well, Y-DNA matching has moved away from STRs, to SNPs instead.
But what is your haplogroup?

Am I right that line 37 on this list is not her data?

It hasn't been "supported" any more for years. It did run on automatic for a few years. It doesn't seem to work at all any more.

To see this issue in practice, compare Family Tree DNA with 23andMe. The former uses STRs and the latter only SNPs. I ask (rhetorically) which is better for surname research?

I said it wrongly. Left pull-down menu myFTDNA --- myGroups --- Manage my groups --- that goes to the same dead end Group Administrator and Member Preferences as what I tried before. What I tried before was Projects pull-down menu --- Manage my projects --- that goes to Group Administrator and Member...

Under that pull-down menu, Manage My Projects still goes to the granting access page. Dead end.

From Projects - Manage My Projects I can no longer access my projects. All I get is the Group Administrator and Member Preferences page, where I have already set my preferences.
What's the trick to seeing the project pages now?

By my known family tree I'm 50% Slavic and 50% Irish and Anglo-Irish. LivingDNA says 19.2% Europe (East) and 67.5% Great Britain and Ireland. So that part can't be right.
But since I don't know anything about my Anglo-Irish lines, it was interesting to see where my 20.8% supposed English...

Do an experiment. Go to https://www.familytreedna.com/groups/r-1b/dna-results and load the Classic chart. It's huge, it may take several tries. You have the most common type of Y-DNA in Europe. Set Page Size to 9999 and reload.
Then search the page for your 67 markers. The easiest...

Your direct maternal line is Native American. That has been passed down to you over many generations. It will always show in the direct maternal line.
But you have had autosomal DNA from many other ancestors since then, mostly European but some African. Only 2% of your geographical...

Ysearch is no longer supported. But it's not completely dead. The match features still work.
