IMHO, the best way to go is the FF test and look for matches there to discover a common relative. It seems there needs to be a lot more research done before MtDNA is genealogically helpful. But remember--I'm an amateur!

Matches in common--include more people

It would be great to be able to narrow down the number of shared matches between more people:

Me + My son + My daughter + each of my 3 cousins

Since 2 of the cousins are from my maternal side and the other from my paternal...

Automatic--thank goodness it is not!

I'm glad the assignment is NOT automatic--the predicted relationships are just that: PREDICTED. In some cases I have found them to be much more distant, in at least one case, closer.

Matches and confirmed relationships

I have results for a son, a daughter, 2 first cousins from my mom's side and 1 first cousin from my dad's side.

The one person who has entered a speculative relationship for the paternal side cousin cannot confirm where the link is--her...
