The problem now is that the new page does NOT give you the Project prices. The prices they offer are do not reflect the discount for ordering through a surname project.

Ordering a Test for New Member
Has anyone tried to order a Y-DNA test for a new member within the last 30 days or so? As project administrator for the Blair DNA Project I have all potential participants submit an application and pedigree chart to me. If they meet the criteria to join the project I then go to my GAP, click on "New...

While FTDNA does an outstanding job of providing webpages for FTDNA projects, many Administrators, like myself, prefer to setup their own websites, which allow us to do a lot more than what is available through FTDNA. With my own website I can control who joins my project, ensure I get the information...

Hi Bimjim,
IF you subscribe to Ancestry.com you might want to consider upgrading to the latest version of Family Tree Maker. I was like you, using an older version of FTM which I found very sufficient, but while at WDYTYA this Feb. I upgraded to FTM 2010. It has a feature which integrates...

I believe the limit of two refers to two Y-DNA Surname Projects. As far as I know you join two surname projects plus other regional, haplogroup, and special projects.

Actually, this forum is set up like most others I have used.
When you first enter the forum you are given a list of the various "sections" or "general topic areas" within the forum. For example, for questions or discussions pertaining to the general topic of DNA and...

Alan,
That is correct. Since you are two entirely different haplogroups, if you share a common ancestor, he would be 10s of 1000s of years ago....

You are right, I missed that one completely. But there are many valid reasons why someone wishes to limit matches to their surname only, particularily if they are R1b.
I agree with you completely....

I agree that those in your situation may need to be able to leave one surname project and join another, depending on how things turn out.
Also keep in mind that many of the surname projects have public website where you can view most, if not all, of the information available to project...

I seriously doubt that a project that is restricted to "members only" is going to let "just anyone" join without first verifying that they have something to offer the project.
I do not agree with restricting all data to project members only, though I can understand...

I'm just curious as to why someone would want to join so many projects and even jump from project to project. Most people join a project or projects that they have a connection to. You join a surname project because you have that surname or believe you descend from that surname. You join a haplogroup...

What do you mean by "failed tests"? Are you referring to bad results or samples that had to be retested?

Blair DNA Project and DNA 101
Due to problems with my old web hosting service I have decided to drop them and take on a new hosting service. My new web host offers far more storage and bandwidth then my old for the same price. They also provide for mutliple domain names and 2 free domain names. As a result of this I have added the...

It was not uncommon in Scotland for a man to take the surname of his wife if she was the only surviving child and heiress to a large estate. By taking her name he inherited the estate and the "estate" surname lived on.
The Blair surname has several examples of this very thing...
