MMadi: I stand corrected that the Haplogroup assignment is not based on a SNP test, rather it has been predicted based on the STR values gleaned from a TV grab of the screen displaying the result. However, the fact that a reputed geneaology centre has 'officially' come out with the haplogroup that was...Last edited by Kaiser; 3 August 2011, 08:39 AM.

King Tut's DNA
A thread with the same title was closed some time back. It is being restarted under the same title because of an important breakthrough: The Y-DNA SNP of King Tut has been determined to be R1b1a2. http://en.news.maktoob.com/200900009...cle.htm?smbcfb...

Could it possibly mean that combined traits like receding forehead and small/missing chin and heavy brow and red hair in a modern population could hint at something Neanderthal?
Would the last refuge of the Neanderthals ie, Gibraltar, be a good candidate for hunting these traits in a...

Interestingly, the study says that just a few matings would have been enough for the 4% Neanderthal DNA material that has been traced in Human genes. Wonder how it was: Human man 'took' Neanderthal girl or the other way round, or both ways? Who knows, if these were forcible matings or consensual? Intriguing...Last edited by Kaiser; 7 May 2010, 06:45 AM.

twang: Dr Hawass has been saying in the past that the 'Pharaohs are Egyptian'. Now if the R1b1b2 leak is true, it would imply a West Asian lineage (which is also majorly dispersed in Western Europe) of the 18th Dynasty and its most famous Pharaoh, Tut. This is sure to turn everything on its head. Hawass...

I hasten to give credit for this amazing sleuthing to Robert Tarin, who cleverly picked up clues from the Discovery Channel video clip to determine the results of the 16-marker STR test.

rainbow: Please note this above quote in one of my previous posts. The video of the DNA charts clearly shows the labels KV55 and AmIII.
Daniel72: You brought up a very interesting point. I concede that todays' virtual non-existence of R1b1b2 in Egypt does not necessarily mean that the...

rainbow: The four matches on ySearch are all Europeans. A match on 10 markers is close but the ultimate would be a 67 marker test, which is of course out, as Tut has been tested for 16 markers only. So the present study gives a fair idea of the paternal lineage, which happens to match with R1b1b people....

The study in question is: The Druze: A Population Genetic Refugium of the Near East, Liran I. Shlush et al, 2008. In this study, the Y-STR markers that have been sampled are: DYS19, DYS388, DYS389i, DYS389ii, DYS390, DYS391, DYS392, DYS393, DYS426, DYS438, DYS439, and DYS457. Only nine of these are...

Tut on ySearch
Tutankhamen's STR results are up on ySearch. His ID is ER7RQ. Results can be seen at: http://www.ysearch.org/haplosearch_v...wuid=ER7RQ&p=0
There are four guys who have a GD of zero on 10 markers; two of these show Haplogroup...Last edited by Kaiser; 19 February 2010, 09:57 PM.

Why must the British/Irish lay exclusive claim to R1b? Yes it has much higher concentrations in Western Europe, but look at the clines towards West Asia. Turkey has upto 14%, while Syria, Iraq, Jordan/Palestine all have about 10% frequency distribution of different R1b clades.
Remember,...

Turkish Tut?
The latest Discovery Channel video grab shows the STR values of two samples labelled KV55 (Ahenaten, Tut's father) and AmIII (Amenhotep III, Tut's grandfather) as can be clearly seen on the screen (Time - 1':53")
