Thanks for that, John.
The word "match" is misleading in this context, considering the instructions given customers from FTDNA.
Perhaps they will work on a better algorithm -- or at least better instructions.I'll add that there's no reason to have confidence in...

Iffy Match Lists: Why does GD/TiP fail to account for incompatible Haplogroups?
My kit has almost 1800 matches at the 12 marker level.
But many -- if not most -- are not true matches at all. And this seems to be a problem built into the FTDNA algorithm for matches.
I hand-sorted and checked each of about 300 BigY/TerminalSNP "matches": appx....Last edited by Rheiner; 31 March 2019, 11:11 AM.

As for "Mr. W.," I repeat my earlier note. Please don't respond to my posts:

Well, Bartarl260, thank you for trying to be thoughtful. Bless your heart. Remember: This forum is for gripes.
I find these parts of your response inappropriate:
"That you don't like the answer isn't our problem, its yours."
"you should"...

"Because mistakes happen" is what started this thread. Remember? It's for gripes. And my complaint is that I can have no confidence in a test that, on its face, is flawed. Do you know what Haplogroup F is? Look it up.
Can you really not tell that your comment adds nothing to the...

Thanks, but this doesn't seem on point.
To be specific: I am classified as R-Z367 at the moment, downstream from U-152. But I am matched with a host of others who are downstream from U-106, or L-21, and so on. They are in different subclades entirely.
On my match list, matches...

Y-DNA TiP Report: Fundamentally Flawed Algorithm
Hi. I've been using the TiP report, as an easy yardstick for probabilities... but there's a glaring issue: haplogroup incompatibility.
The top name on my 67-marker match list computes much the same as the others on the list, despite the differences in mutation rate supposedly tracked by...

Yes, we do seem to use "different research methodologies." Your research methodologies may accept at face value a conclusion that a Swiss native is haplogroup F. Your research methodologies may even include paying for inaccurate tests.
Mine do not.
No more assistance...

STR/SNP/Subclade Data On Match Lists
In working over my match lists, it's become clear to me that just a little more information could go a long way.
My 67-marker match list has 10 matches -- but 6 are displayed as subclade R-M269. 3 out of 4 of the others are in different haplogroups from me. There's no way to divine which...

Well, then, the algorithm you've mentioned is either inaccurate or you're mistaken....
