Decoding Your Personal Genome - Affordable in 5 Years

As I see it, DNA is like a foundation or blueprint. But by the time a human has become conscious he has become so complex, and the ways in which his environment will affect him have become so complex, that there must certainly be MANY other complex factors that come into play in determining who he is....

Mutations and Age/Health of Father
We have a strange situation in our project where 3 mutations have occured on 37 markers, and it appears they have occured within 3 - 4 generations. This seems like a lot to me, and has me a little worried.
Two of the mutations are on "fast moving" markers.

Isn't there some number of generations back where FTDNA says a perfect 67/67 match gives a 100% chance of a common ancestor? I thought I saw that somewhere and now I can't find it...
We don't have any perfect 67/67 matches in our project yet so we don't have any FTDNAreports for this...

Joe,
We have a similar situation developing in our Dowell DNA Project. We have one cluster of Dowells who are matching DNA with members of the Martin DNA Project. We are just starting to see these matches, but will be pursuing this full force, because certain researchers from this...

I have read that the day is not too far off when any one of us could have the same thing done for our own personal genome for under $1000. That would be COOL.

I would like to know the answer to this too....I have read some stuff about "Random Convergence", but does anyone know what the chances are of this happening to the resolution of a 65/67 match?

New Techniques?
Thanks everybody.
Coincidentally, I saw this possibly relevant story in the news today:

I wonder if this will end up cutting the cost somewhere down the road...

Techno Progress & Economics
Does anybody know if FTDNA is pursuing a YDNA test with resolution higher than 67 markers? Would it even be necessary?
Seems like this stuff should get better, faster, and cheaper with time. That tends to be the trend with popular technology...

Thanks...this will get me started...I find it all very fascinating...
I will be back with more questions after I have done some reading...

Thanks. This looks very interesting.
There is a possibility of Cherokee in my past...but it is a few generations back. The woman whom I suspect is my gggGrandmother is said to be Cherokee. I would like to get some more clues to support the theory that I am in fact one of her descendents....

What are we talking about?
Which test is everyone talking about here - and where can I get more info on how to take it?

Small DNA Sample from a Grave
The idea of using a drill along with some kinda ultra-sound device seems pretty simple to me. Simply find a spot over some hair or bone, (isn't it possible to get DNA from hair or bone?) drill a small hole, get a tiny sample, and then close up the hole. 10...
