How many Grandparents
If people matched dna as 2nd or 3rd cousins, what level of grandparents would they share?
-
Both my helper cousin and I have encouraged him to do this -

They share 2017 cMs. The female's mother was born and raised in Germany and the female was born in Germany in 1952. The male was born in Booneville, MO in 1949. The male's mother at the time of his birth was 15. They DO NOT have the same mother. All dna relates them to my father's side of the family....Last edited by cmbearly; 12 May 2017, 11:26 AM.

I think the female has - not sure about the supposed half brother. Within the family tree, we have found many, many instances of intermarriages where brothers married brothers, cousins married cousins, etc. Wondering if that would make their cMs possibly higher than the actual relationship is -

What Do You Think?
A cousin and I have been trying to help two supposed half sibs find their bio father. The female was born in Germany to a German mother during the Korean conflict, the male was born in Booneville, MO. They have as many cMs as a lot of FULL sibs, and no father has been found to even be considered at...

Ancestry
I noted on Ancestry, along with the matches list, there is a search you can click on and it indicates where you can request surnames and locations. Does anyone know about this feature? Seems like each time I click on it, it is very inconsistent with its returns.

Families with many intermarriages
A cousin and I have been looking for the bio father of two people who came up on Ancestry matches as cousins. They showed up as half sibs. In exploring the tree, there are so many instances of where brothers married sisters, cousins married cousins, some with the same surname married, and the one...

So the person can be tested alone and will get some type of results indicative of possible surnames?

Y dna question
I have a cousin looking for his bio father. So far searching the family tree has not helped make any connections. Ancestry dna has only provided cousin matches. Would having him do the Y dna provide a Surname to help us in this search?

Question about Ancestry matches
I had my dna done by Ancestry.com. I contacted a couple of people indicated in my matches, both at the 4-6th cousin level. They live in VA, and I am looking at my father's side of the family, who came from around the Ozarks. These individuals indicate they are not connected to anyone from this part...

So this would also work with testing nephews of the deceased father?

Quality Assurance
Does Ancestry have any type of quality assurance process before they release the results of their testing like FTDNA? Thank you.

Bio Father
Could having a presumed uncle or aunt tested lead to finding possible bio father? I figured having the uncle tested is best, but wondered if an aunt would also work -

Inter-relationships/Marriages
On my dad's side of the family there are multiple inter-relationships and marriages. No blood relatives are married as far as everyone knows. However, for example, there are a couple of instances where two brothers married two sisters, cousins married, and my dad has a first cousin - their mother...
