Big Y kit in Batch 1197 complete today 7/10/21. Ordered May, they requested a new sample, it was submitted and finally it's done.

2 work-arounds for FTDNA
Yeah, there are 2 complete methods -- send the DNA file to your server and get it back finished, or process it locally on your own PC. Something for everyone.
FTDNA could easily incorporate these checks into their uploads if they...

Glad I could help
I'm glad you could use the info about the additional records in the template. I, too, have tested mine 4 times now and feel good about the reliablity.
For anyone wishing to use it, it's at AncestryDNAFix. Feel free to use it, I don't need any feedback...Last edited by OldFinneyKid; 22 October 2017, 06:30 PM.

Comparisons
I sent you a private message yesterday...? After I posted my original suggestion I downloaded the free Visual Studio and turned it into a Windows console program you could try....Last edited by OldFinneyKid; 22 October 2017, 09:53 AM.

upload file revisions
Thank you, then leaving them intact with the I's and D's was the correct decision. Good to know.
I understand what you say about looking up rsid's to determine status, from the standpoint of strict adherance to recognized standards. It is obvious...

They could fix this
I noticed the file size difference in August but did nothing else since my files were not affected. This week I had a file that was the small size and could not be fixed with the header change. It took me nearly a day to write the program to fix it, and I'm not a professional...

Never can tell....
Unfortunately they sent another kit in the mail and asked us to get a new sample. I guess it doesn't always work out.......

Batch 766
This is a FF test on a kit previously submitted for Y-DNA only.
Can't remember if this is the 3rd delay or the 4th -- just know the target keeps moving. Makes me wonder if they really can do additional testing after samples have been in storage for a while.

Upgrading an older Y-37 kit to FF
Ordered an upgrade for a 2007 Y-37 kit to FF over 10 years later, on 7/9/2017. The new test was batched in 766 on 7/10. Since then there has been a reported delay every couple of weeks. The latest delay says the results are expected 09/18/2017-10/02/...

Are file sizes an issue?
So far, from what I have seen, the file size determines whether the fix will work on files downloaded over the last week or two. It seems that the Ancestry files are now being downloaded with the proper header so the fix is no longer necessary. File size appears...

Uncompressed file sizes?
Just curious, but if your file still does not work, do you have the older file with an uncompressed size of 18,400 KB or do you have the newer file with an uncompressed size of 17,686 KB? Does anyone have a file with either of these sizes that still will not upload...

Sometimes it doesn't matter
I've had the opportunity to upload 9 kits since this problem started (a family reunion generated interest, in case you're wondering), and I tried different things after I saw what was and was not working. Here are my observations:
1. Line 3 ...

Notepad++
After you install Notepad++, you can open the DNA text file from within the program if you know how. Alternatively, you can hover your mouse over the file name in your folder and press the right-click button for the options menu. One of those options will be to "Edit with...

Notepad++
Don't want to be obvious here, but just make sure the editor you use doesn't introduce additional (invisible) formatting problems. Rather than Windows Notepad or a word processor, I used an old programmer's editor, Notepad++, free download from the Internet. I made the change...

Autosomal Transfer from Ancestry
I also independently arrived at the solution since 2 of my kits finished on Ancestry yesterday. FTDNA Customer Support correctly pointed me to the version discrepancy on line 3 between V1 and V2. I called Ancestry, and they were not aware they had changed...
