Researching on a project page I find a Kit# with no name. How do I find the person of the Kit#?

I am a Farrell with Y-DNA results of a Haplogroup R-A1487. This haplogroup is the Dalton surname, I am told.

Yes, but not a match.

Is he your only match?
Not my only Y-DNA match but the closest, all others are only at the Y-DNA12 and Y-DNA25 level.

I have my DNA posted in FTDNA. I run a report and get back over 900 so-called matches. As I go through the list the columns of x's and dashes indicate no data or no match. Why do I get all these so-called matches? Family Finder shows possible cousins but the data shows no match.
