When Big Y was introduced, yes it was $649. However it was an add-on test separate from the STR tests (Y12-Y111). Some years ago it went down to $575. During the Holiday sale of 2017, new Big Y orders included a free upgrade for your STR test to Y111. DNA Day sale of 2018 introduced the Big Y500 in...

Can you try with a different web browser? Could be an issue only some people have which may explain why customer support don't know how to help you.

For a long time, FTDNA has stated that the batch numbers do not indicate the order they process the tests. Though they have not given specifics about what order they do either. It seems the backlog of Big Y is shrinking a lot. I just saw a bunch of Big Y results arrive this past week. These were for...Last edited by The_Contemplator; 16 October 2019, 12:34 AM.

When FTDNA make the change from Big Y to Big Y500 (before Big Y700), they made the Big Y500 as an upgrade to Y111. As you might recall, before you could just order a Y12 and order the separate Big Y to skip the STR tests (Y37-Y111). Now instead of it being separate it upgrades your Y12 (or whatever...

I did get that email. On April 1, I got the email titled "GAP Announcement: Enter To Win FIVE Y-37 Tests!" Then on May 6 I got one titled "GAP Announcement: Mother's Day Sale & Y-DNA Contest Winners". If you do a search for "catchphrase" in your email, you should find...

I agree with Jim. Accepting anyone has its benefits. Not all people are aware of the differences between the autosomal DNA test and the Y-DNA test. Once they are in the project, you can inform them. Some will get the test. As they remain in the project and get updates from the admin from time to time,...

Go with Public Website > Site configuration. There you can pick that only project members can see those results. Though it may be worth considering leaving that public to help attract potential project members to want to join. This is an all or nothing sort of option.
The setting to...

It does not take months and months to process the test. A lot of people ended up ordering the Big Y700. The estimated date given for your Big Y test is meaningless. It is automated and not accurate for this scenario. Best to ignore it, it will just change as that date draws near again and again. They...

Your genealogical research will help a lot with this situation. Maybe many generations ago an ancestor was given his mother's surname. If however you find that your research should match with those in that surname project, then you got in your hands an NPE case. NPE being non-paternal event or some...

The number of YDNA matches will depend on how many paternal cousins you have out there and how many got tested. In my own initial Y67 I had zero matches at every level. I tested an uncle from my maternal grandfather's side and he had 30+ matches at Y37. About half with his surname with the rest with...

Not me. I use one email for all the kits I manage as well. I was just answering a question loobster had about cases where two different people may want access to the same kit. One is the donor and the other one may have payed for the test and may be more interested in the data from it than the dono...

I had a kit use two emails on the primary email line and waited for email notifications about new matches. It did not work. I tried it with a comma and no space, comma with space, and semi-colon as well. Throughout that time I did not receive new email notifications even though when I logged into the...

Well whatever is in the primary email line should get all the notifications. I just do not know if it will work correctly having two emails listed or if that will make it glitch. Would need to try it out. I'll run a test with one of my kits. Will have to wait some days for notifications though. I'll...

Do you mean the welcome screen? See attached. I saw it on a kit I ordered for someone. I simply confirmed their name and my email as I had used when I ordered the kit. As always you can change both later on if needed. Once you confirm that, you are asked agree to the terms of service and privacy statement....Last edited by The_Contemplator; 19 May 2019, 01:23 PM.
