MMaddi
Curious as to how we can tell what is an uncommon mutation. I also have never had a match, having taken the full sequence test several years ago. I always figured it was because my maternal line comes from a small remote village in Switzerland.

R-M173, which Haplogroup project to join?
Results of Y-67 test came back with R-M173 assigned as haplogroup. Ancestors came to the United States from a small town in Switzerland in the 1870's. Only 17 matches, all with haplogroups in R1b (R-M343, R-M269, R-M222 and R-S673). Am I correct in thinking I should join the R1b Basal Subclades Project,...

I'm a little late in answering the OP's question of my reply but the way I knew my actual surname was when the top ten 67 matches all had the same surname and all of the 111 matches also had that same surname. Corresponding with my best match, finding out he was born and raised in the same place I was,...

But that is not where it ends. I did exactly that, joined my surname project and bought the kit. When my Y results came back with 0 distance at 67 markers to another surname, along with 9 others to that same surname at 2 to 3 markers, I dropped out of the original surname project and joined the one...

For me the suggested surname project was (and is) based on my last name. I joined it when I ordered my Y-111 test. Results indicated an NPE two generations back which I was able to confirm from available records. Dropped out of that surname project giving the reason and joined the one for my newly discovered...

lgmayka, I always enjoy reading your replies to questions on the forum, and once again you were spot on with what I didn't know I was looking for. lol. Clicking on the YFULL on the upper left side of the Yfull webpage brought up the results page. No results to date but clicking on the Haplogroups and...

Time to receive YFull results
Not to be impatient, but I received confirmation 7 days ago that YFull had received my BAM file and it was good. Curious as to how long others have waited for their results. I now find myself checking my email every couple of hours. I expect more than a few of you have been in the same place.

Received my batch 625 Big Y results today!! That's 2 weeks earlier than the expected date. And that was the original date, it was never extended. Looks like the timeliness of receiving test results depends upon the test and whether there were any quality problems with the results. Wishing the rest of...

prairielad - Thanks for the very detailed answer, it is just what I needed to help me understand how to get my reluctant cousin to post.
lgmayka - thanks for the answer. My cousin has no knowledge of the NPE and when I tell them the real reason I want them to test I may want to be anonymous...

Afraid to test
I have a situation where I need to confirm an NPE. This requires mu only second cousin to take a FF test to pinpoint the generation where it occured. Unfortunately they are deathly afraid that if they test their results may somehow become public and because of that possibility don't want to test....

I've had two different notifications of Y DNA matches this week and in both cases the notification was three days after the date of the match. Unfortunately they were down there at 12 and 25 markers, so they were of no value to me, but at least I am getting notifications, even if a little delayed.

I too was one who thought the three most common surnames was useless. At least I was until I recieved my Y-111 results and discovered my surname wasn't what I thought it was. With literally dozens of matches to a certain surname at the various levels of testing, imagine my surprise when I noticed that...
