I am the Godfrey project administrator, you may wish to join our project as it covers a number of different variations and similar surnames such as Geoffroi, Jeffway, Gottfried etc and Jaffrey is related to some of those (many of the surnames have multiple etymological origins). I would be curious to...

The 111 upgrade will help give you a better idea of how closely related those who have also tested to 111 markers are, so not a bad decision. BigY is on sale occasionally, particularly for the winter sale so keep an eye out for that. Between Y-DNA111 and BigY you'll be pretty well covered. Do any of...

Have you/they done any Family Finder testing? If not, I would do that, at least for the GD=2 at 111 match. If they don't show up as Family Finder matches then that will suggest the common ancestor is on the more distant end of the range.

It all depends on the SNP pack as well as your own particular results. Most are back much sooner than 5 months now though. M343 Backbone SNP Packs are sometimes finished even in about a week....

When you're logged into the kit, click on the blue upgrade button in the upper righthand area of your screen. Next scroll down to where you see Advanced Tests on the left and click on the blue Buy Now button. On the next page, change the test type filter to SNP Pack, this will then show all SNP Packs...

I am in a similar unfortunate situation with my own surname's project; the original administrator has not been heard from in several years and Terry Barton is the other administrator and not actually involved either; so it is just myself and another co-administrator who are unfortunately unable to do...

Apparently only Administrators, not Co-Administrators, have the conversion button, I don't know if that's a possibility for the problem in your case.

The M343 SNP panel is not a bad place to start, though sometimes you can skip down to a more recent level in the haplotree if it is obvious from your matches that you belong in that area. Do any of your 67 or 37 marker matches have a SNP listed in the the Terminal SNP column? Also what value do you...

PF810 is located in an STR and is probably not useful for phylogenetic haplotree purposes, that is why you don't see it. It is a "known" SNP, but not necessarily a useful one.

I tested a friend who is from South India (Kerala) and she has 19 Family Finder matches, so you can imagine mtDNA matches would be scarce until DNA testing becomes more popular there. If you haven't already, you might want to join the Haplogroup M project: www.familytreedna.com/public/M%20mtDNA%20H...

If you haven't already, make sure to join the Z251 project which includes Z16944: http://www.familytreedna.com/groups/...out/background The project administrators will help you get the most mileage out of your BigY results. Also once you have your VCF file, I recommend sending it to Alex Williamson's...

I guess there are some areas where C and B overlap slightly as well. I think I would stick with him being B though until further SNP testing proved otherwise. I find understudied haplogroups like B very interesting.
