Yes I have done it here and at ancestry.com. I have looked at those results and while I have a few Hays, 2 here and a few more at ancestory, it does not seem to be much help. One of my matches here is adopted and the other I share a fairly close relationship on my mothers side.

I am pretty sure I have an NPE, let me know what you all think. My surname is Hays. I have good history back to my Grandfather who was born in 1833. We are not sure exactly where he was born. I started with the y-67 test and joined the Hays/Hayes surname project. I don't match any Hays/Hayes, not...

I have had this twice in the last month. What I noticed is that I do not have any y-matches on the main matching page. But, when I went to the maps page I had a new match completely hidden in terms of name, etc, but located on the map in what looked like random locations. I have a match in the middle...

I asked the question about the Irish IV because I find that group strange and I belong 100%. My surname is Hays. I do not match any Hays/Hayes, not even close. But I do match several folks that are Irish IV at the y67 in the 2,3,4 genetic distance. At first I though I had a NPE, and I still may,...

I'm curious if any of the Barry's are Irish type IV. I have one list that shows a Barry, Irish type IV with an origin that is thought to be Scottish. From what I have read the Irish type IV is thought to be of Norman origin.

Project page question
When I go to the main Join a Project projects page it lists out at the top a group of "matching projects". Is this list a suggested group of projects for me? It looks kinda random. Does anyone know what it is based on?

I am realizing that also after reading all I can find. I'm in a group labeled as Irish IV and it has many surnames. It just seems strange to me when I run various TMRCA calculators with my matches that there could be so many surnames in a group that appear to have close relationships in recent times...

History of Surnames
Does anyone know of a good article or book that details the history of Surnames and when they came into to use? I'm looking of information for the Britain and Ireland. I have looked on the web and have not found anything very detailed. Thanks

I'll add a little clarification to the question. I tested positive for CTS-9881. I have ordered tests to check the SNP's below cts-9881 on the tree. Could I test positive something higher on the tree off on another branch. As I understand it, I will test positive for the senior snp's above cts9881....

Can you have more than one terminal SNP?
The title says it all. Can I have more than one terminal SNP?

Yes I joined the project yesterday so I'll wait and see how they guide me. I still have not my Mtdna so I need to get that started.

R-cts9881
Based on my y67 results and the matches that were closest to me, I went ahead and ordered one SNP test for R-cts9881. I tested positive for that SNP and my haplagroup now shows me R-cts9881. I have joined several related projects. My question is should I test more? There is a test for all of the...

I have one perfect match at the y-67. I live in the US and this person lives in the UK. All of their information is hidden, all of it. So yes, I feel your frustration.
