@Adam, although an error by FTDNA cannot be excluded, I am afraid that you are misinterpreting your results. Region 16001-16569 is always included starting with the now discontinued basic mtDNA test. When you had taken mtDNAPlus, regions 1-574 and 16001-16569 were tested.

@Adam, your good questions can probably be only answered in a forum devoted to archaeogenetics. But, did you try asking in the relevant J group at YFull? However, I am expecting that you are asking about YFull's proprietary know-how (and YFull [Russia] is not owned by FTDNA [USA]).

@clintonslayton76, the perceived discrepancy comes from the margin of error being very high with only 12 markers. Then decreasing with 25, 37, and 67 markers.

My guess is that starting with Y-DNA111 the current model that uses predictions from mutation rates gives too narrow intervals for...

@Rheiner, we just use different research methodologies. When I am faced with anything unusual, I plan on extending testing by using a different test (or tests), etc.

The problem could be with a sample or something with the FTDNA process or procedures, then an expensive independent test...

Two mislabelled vials do not seem to be likely, so I understand FTDNA actions.


On the other hand, I tend to use scientific approach, and I would use YSEQ to test for the SNP that defines the major haplogroup...
