2 segments on 1 chromosome: same ancestor?
If you match 2 segments (30cM and 10cM) on the same chromosome, what are the odds they are from the same ancestor? Is it different then when they would be on different chromosomes?

Here's another one:

What about marrying within a small group, because people lived within a small group? For example small town or small islands.
For the DNA it doesn't matter what the reasons were.

As fas as I know FTDNA is the only company that tests this in the proper way. 23andme only gives SNPs which can predict the result.
(PS, just curious: what was your batch nr?)

Gedmatch succes.
A while ago I found my first true DNA match on Gedmatch. The other person had tested with 23andme. The total length was 44.8 cM and longest block was 22.8 cM. The other person had little info of his ancestry, only a handful of surnames. One sounded dutch, so I searched for emigrants with that surname....

At 4th cousins, there is a chance that you don't inherit dna from your common ancestor. Or not the same segments as your 4th cousin.
I found it here:

Lesson 2.

These tests can still serve some purpose.
For example if 2 people with a known common ancestor about 12 generations back each take a test, one at 111 markers and one at 12 markers, then a match will pretty sure indicate that the paper trail is correct....

Results 38-47 came in today! Only 2 more panels to go. Looking good.

The status of my 'Pending Lab Results' page has changed.
It's now 2-4 weeks instead of 1-2 weeks. And this note was added at each panel:...

But then it's remarkable that markers 1-37 went very smooth in just 2 weeks and markers 38-67 take 8 weeks or more. Can the quality of the sample have degraded so much in only a couple of months?

Geno 2.0 transfer fail
I already wrote an email about it, but maybe I should also post it here.
I recently got my results of Geno 2.0 and I wanted to transfer them to my FTDNA account, but that failed.
When I logged in there was no kit number visible after the #.
And clicking the button...

IMO the best alternative at this moment is Geno 2.0.
But it involves sending in another DNA sample to the same lab that already has your sample.

What does it say when you click "Check the status of pending tests." on the Order History page?
