Swiss yDNA
To add to this exploration, I recently received the yDNA results of my father's half brother. Their father was the child of Swiss emigrants. The family lived in Thurgau, but were originally from St. Gallen.
yDNA, as you know, is passed from father to son to...

My cousin's y-37 in Batch 706 was completed yesterday, January 3.
Even better, it proved my theory that my g-grandfather was not the son of his "father". Now to figure out which of the four men in this other family is the real father. . . . .

I'm waiting on a cousin's y-37 from Batch 706. This was an upgraded FF test. Seeing that a y-37 from Batch 707 has come in gives me hope that my cousin's comes in soon!

If YOU could recommend updates/changes to FTDNA . . .
I saw this on the ISOGG (International Society of Genetic Genealogy) Wiki page and thought you all might find it an interesting read.

If you were recommending any changes or updates to FTDNA, what would they be? Since this seems...Last edited by ShellyH; 6 January 2016, 07:18 PM.

The Ancestry View is only convenient when a person has a relatively small tree. With many generations, it's really difficult to follow a line from the child to their parent, and so on. Thus, when someone says, "You match me on my maternal side", the Ancestry View forces you to scroll all...

New Tree Format - PLEASE!
I've commented on this in the past, but I just have to say it again . . . The tree format at FTDNA *really* needs to be improved.
I have tested at both FTDNA and Ancestry, and have my data at GEDmatch as well. I also belong to a number of genetic genealogy lists, and have read the comments...

Has the father tested? What about the siblings of your cousin? If the father hasn't tested yet, is there the possibility that HE is the one that doesn't match the others which would make everyone down the line not match the others? Just trying to think through a few options....

I've been there, so I can relate. We established a yDNA study group back in 2008 for a group of men who descended from a common ancestor born in 1785. Most were the descendants of one of the brothers, but we only had one guy from the other brother. Lo and behold, that man didn't match - not even...

On the topic of the so-called "Sticky Segments" my largest match at FTDNA outside my immediate family (mother, daughter, two sisters, several cousins) is a likely "sticky segment" match.
The match is estimated to be a 3rd cousin, with 11 segments, including these two...

My uncle's test is a FF in Batch 614, with an expected completion of 4/8 - 4/22, so the pushing back of 612 into the same dates is concerning. That said, I typically see a bunch of new matches on Thursday nearly every week, but there have been none since 3/30. Maybe we'll see a lot of them next week....
