That couple you mentioned at the end of your post is very promising. What distance are his matches at 37 and 67? If you can find out who the children of the couple are that might point you in the right direction. Does he have any matches of 500 cm or higher on any of the DNA websites that could be...

I watched a sad video last night about a man who took a DNA test and discovered that he was not the biological father of either of his sons. It turns out that his ex-wife was having an affair with her boss. Now he won't have any biological grandchildren.

I was able to download it. It was just a bunch of letters and numbers and I've already tested on here so I'm not sure how it would be helpful.

Hi Judy,
I'm sorry you're dealing with this. The DNA test you took on Ancestry is the correct one. Have you taken the Family Finder test on here? I'd also suggest 23andMe or MyHeritage (if you're willing to get a subscription too). Do you have any close DNA matches so far that don't...

Genographic Project is shutting down
I ordered a Genographic Project DNA test on April 17. I don't know when my results were ready, but I finally looked at them on July 31. Either they never sent me an e-mail or it got lost in the sea of other unread e-mails. I couldn't find the "Our Stories" section for finding matches, but...

I've wondered before whether genealogy programs allow for incest. Obviously it does happen, so you'd think a program would be incomplete without that option. On Ancestry when you look at someone in your tree it says how you are related. It should be possible to program it to allow for multiple relationships....

I was going to ask if you had any health or fertility problems, so I'm glad it worked out for you. Was it rape or consensual? Was your niece also adopted? I've seen other examples on this forum of incest so it's probably more common than most of us think....

Are your mom and her brother full siblings? Was your mother impregnated by her father?...

Changed ranking of matches
In my spreadsheet I have matches listed by total CM. However, I think they changed how they rank matches, perhaps to be based more on relationship. It looked like some matches were missing, but then I sorted by CM and it made sense. It also looks like when two people have the same amount of CM, it...

Unexpected shared DNA amounts
All of these relatives tested with another company and I don't think it has a chromosome browser. However, my dad and my maternal cousin are also on Gedmatch.
1) My dad is at 3,436 cM.
2) My maternal grandmother is at 1,184. DNA painter gives a 12% chance.
3) My paternal cousin...

Can I order a mtDNA test for my wife?
She has already taken the Family Finder test so there should be enough of a DNA sample left. I'm just wondering if it will cause any problems if the card used to make the purchase has a different name on it than her account. Also, when does the sale end? I'm thinking of purchasing it around the 17th,...

It seems very likely that you have the same father. If he is willing to take another test, I'd suggest Y-DNA with at least 37 markers.

If you share great-great grandparents, then you are 3rd cousins. Has your cousin also done a Y-DNA test?
