If you have Jewish ancestry then matching to North African reference populations supposedly indicates Sephardic ancestry.
FTDNA doesn't provide a lot of admixture detail. Have you uploaded your test results to gedmatch.com?

Can't search for place names now
Since the rollout of the new FF matches interface I've found that I can no longer search for a place name. I know there's an option to do that in Advanced Searching but apparently it only works if you also put in birth or death dates. I don't have those. I need to be able to pull up a list of people...

Geno updated mtDNA for 2.0 participants
I tested with Geno 2.0. Originally I was classed as N. This is such a rare haplogroup that I decided to do the mid-level mtDNA test with FTDNA. That test classed me as N1b.
Earlier this year Genographic upgraded the mtDNA for their 2.0 testers. Now I'm classed as N1b1b.

Thanks. I was able to get it sorted out with Genographic. Geno 1.0 only tested her mtDNA which is H. Of course it's almost certainly not just H (with one mutation.)
Sometimes it doesn't pay to be an early adopter as they have not offered to upgrade her test, which they did for me (I tested...

Never mind. I was finally able to get through to NG's customer service department. I now know that Geno 1.0 didn't include autosomal testing.

Geni 1.0
I am helping a cousin of mine with her Geno 1.0 account. She gave me her login and password so that I can download her autosomal results to my computer, for the purpose of uploading it to gedmatch.com.
I cannot find the link on her account that would allow me to download her file. Does...

Where are the instructions for these tools?
Two questions.
First, can someone provide a URL or breadcrumb trail for the instructions on these new tools?
Second, how can I upload a revised GEDCOM? I can't find a link to do that anywhere.
Thank...

I also have an mtDNA Plus in batch 537, and would like to know if the release date of 11/26/13 is still valid.

Bolded surname that isn't one of my listed family names
Family Finder has recently started bolding a surname that I haven't identified as one of my family names. It's not a name that's familiar to me in terms of my family history.
Is this an error, and if so how can I advise FF about it?
If it's not an error, how did FF determine...

My mtDNA test was done by Genographic. I was told that I'm N1 CRS. But let's say for argument's sake, that I'm not precisely N1, but some variation of N1 that doesn't fit anywhere in the known N1 family. How would I go about finding that out?

Thanks everyone for your comments and help!
I know N1 won't die out with me. (I'm past childbearing age, btw.) But for some reason it disturbs me that my maternal line of N1 will die with me. A geneticist told me that there have only been about eight N1 women identified so far. None of...

Thank you! I was pretty sure I understood that mtDNA was passed to male and female children but I wanted to be sure before I passed the info along to my family members. I'm the designated genetics/genealogy "explainer" in the family and I am not especially knowledgeable of these subjects,...Last edited by Rhea; 9 June 2013, 05:27 AM.

Comparing mtDNA brothers/sisters
I'm the last female on my great-grandmother's line. My mtDNA is N1. Would my brothers, and other male family members descended from this woman, also have mtDNA of N1?
