No half siblings allowed?
For some reason the Family Tree viewer will not allow me to have a father with two separate wives; each relationship having produced a half sister. Every time I add the second wife, it assumes the first wife is the mother of both half sisters. Why wouldn't FTDNA's family tree software allow for a husband...

I've never used it. Will check it out. Thanks.

Duplicate Matches
Hi, I seem to have at least one pair of duplicate matches, if not two, in my FF match list. Same name, same number of cMs shared, etc. The only difference is their match dates with me. If anyone at FTDNA can check on this, just pm me and I will give you my details. Thanks.

Lyncra, you're absolutely right. The mutation could surface to mess everything up. Good point.
I can't help but wonder though if my mother would get the same matches. Slight difference in mutation or exact, if the matches don't change, it still doesn't seem worth the cost to pay again....

Thanks for the responses.
Yes, from a laboratory standards and ethics viewpoint I can understand that. Makes sense. I do put the haplogroup I received in her notes as I assume that mother's and sons are never going to diverge in result.
If the science of haplogroup determination...

Testing twice, for mother & child? Why?
I don't see a need for testing twice if I have already tested for my full sequence. Is there any advantage to testing my mother also, or will I get the exact same results? Seems to me to be a waste of money, unless I'm not sure my mother is my biological mother.
Since my haplogroup is...

Thanks for all your responses.
Igmayka, where can I find one of these floating 100 dollars off coupons for Big Y?

Okay, then let's talk numbers.
1) How many SNP's and/or STRs does one get for each?
2) How does this compare with the Y67 or Y111 STR marker tests? Or does it?
3) Can Geno 2 results be used by group admins for deeper haplogroup research and placement?

Big Y vs Geno 2
Big Y vs Geno 2.
What are the differences and which is the best deal for the money? Geno 2 is currently less than 200 dollars. Big Y three times that.
Opinions?

Blood relation isn't really what or why I am asking.
I'll use myself as an example. I belong to the Y-DNA 'G' haplogroup and the mt-DNA 'V' haplogroup. I would be interested in meeting someone with that same combination of haplogroups. It doesn't have to be someone I am 'recently related'...

Y & MT haplogroup matches?
Has anyone ever found a match or tester who had the same Y-DNA and MT-DNA haplogroup?
Obviously, this is a question for males only. But if any females know of anyone... or just want to respond, feel free.
I am curious what the odds are of finding such a person? I'm guessing...

Yes, they are exact 12 marker matches. That is all I have....

I've had the same 4 matches at Y-12 since I tested which was about 2 years ago. Only one of the 4 tested at Y-37 and none of the 4 have my surname except one Y-12 tester, who for some reason I don't understand actually has a completely different haplogroup/type than myself and the other 3 of us. ...

Thanks. I'm already a member of that project. I was just hoping for a more simple explanation from the people here. I've been to the page at ISOGG page and find it a little overwhelming.
I understand the basic premise and analogy that a Haplotree is like an pedigree tree. I do get that...
