Opposite findings
Andrew and robe3b,
Well it certainly had to happen, my 385a/b=15/17 tosses me outa nearly every study I've seen; so if I'm in, obviously everyone else is out.

Way back in the beginning, someone asked what a mutation at 16519C meant. Check out this web page:
http://www.familytreedna.com/hclade2.html
the hvr1 and hvr2 don't help much in determining your sub-clades, but 16519C
can eliminate you from some of the sub-clades....

Re: Names for Helena sub-clades
Y'all might want check out Oxford Ancestors web site, at one time they were naming all of the sub-clades, as members checked in with their results. Of course it's not 'official' but then we are a new science.

Re: Another Source for Discussion
Hello forum memebers,
I just looked me up in the Capelli 2005 and found I am a 45. In the interest of brevity I won't list all the matches that 45 entails. Here is another study y'all might find interesting; if you haven't seen it already, in...Last edited by jaken24; 31 October 2006, 10:30 PM.

Victor,
I have been so appreciative of the work that John has done, though I must admit this DNA stuff is all Greek to me. I am disappointed that John is stepping down, but I completely understand how much time a well run project can consume. Thanks ever so much John, enjoy your retirement....

Re: Oooops forgot the DSYs
Jim, Kerry, and Bill,
Thanx all, I am so remiss; how can you or anyone else compare without the dsys? I am 4FUQP Ysearch, my 385a/b seems to throw everything into a mad flux.
At YHRD if I search without my 385a/b I have many matches...

Cruciani et al
Bill and Kerry;
Thanks for the responses, both of you have helped me. According to the paper referenced in this thread, Molecular Dissection of the Y Chromosome Haplogroup M-78 (E3b1a); page 6 has a chart showing all but one M-78* as being beta cluster.

researching the wrong family?
You are not the first to be surprised (shocked) by their results. ;o) If I were in you're position I would try Ysearch at www.ysearch.org; when you visit, follow the directions to sign up and enter your test results. ( If you were tested by FTDNA, then...

What do they mean?
Shari,
That is a very difficult question to answer, mutations 263G, 309.1C and 315.1C are very common, and are found in several Haplotypes. Those mutations, though common, are not 'defining mutations'. If you check this diagram:

Jim,
When the new E3b test is available, will those who have already paid for the previous test, get the new test free? automatically? i.e. I have already been tested positive for M35, will I get clarification as to my sub-clade?

CNT,
That is correct, they found YAP+ with no derived markers in five Nigerian males. Which should be sufficient evidence to place the origin of YAP in Africa. What they went on to devulge is that they aren't sure that YAP is in fact the 'father' of D and E.
Looking at...

I doubt that any of the archived Genealogy-DNA-L will answer the question, I have subscribed to that list for quite sometime. I have posed the same question to that list, and got some interesting responses. The closest to an answer I have found is here: ""Rare Deep-Rooting Y Chromosome...
