I won't ask this match to pay for FamilyFinder on the off chance we may match. I have many known 4th cousins who do not match. This connection would benefit her more than me since she doesn't know the ancestors of her Scott, yet she doesn't seem all that interested. I'll just remain optimistic about...

Match has not taken FamilyFinder. She is my 4th cousin 1x removed so there is only a slim chance of matching. Scott is a common surname but for the only Scott to show up as a match, and to be living in the same county (pop. 9400 in 1820, or 0.094% of total US population) as my Scott would seem to me...

Would you consider them sisters based on this evidence?
I'm in haplogroup H3h with FMS, tested about 6 years ago. I've been monitoring my matches to see if any can be tied in to my known genealogy which goes back to early Dutch settlers of Schenectady, NY on my mtDNA line, without any success. Some of my exact matches are from Sweden and Russia which must...

How does it benefit you to know when a match shares less than 5 cM with you on the X? Provide examples.
They can call it an Autosomal test or whatever they want to call it. The fact is they do sequence the X chromosome of everyone who takes the Family Finder test and have the capability...

You are attacking my wording while ignoring the point I am making. What do you think of my point? Have you been able to make constructive use of what FTDNA is calling an "X-match"? Do you think they could improve the way they present "X-matches"?
Again, I know exactly...Last edited by ToddH; 7 February 2019, 06:50 PM.

Yes I know and I'm saying it is very unhelpful. The "X-matches" I have share X segments of under 3 cM, or noise. They shouldn't be counted as X matches at all, it is misleading. A decent X match should start at around 10 cM. And we should be allowed to have matches who share significant X-DNA...

Improve X matching
Still disappointed with what FTDNA calls "X-match" (all of mine are less than 5 cM and more than likely noise), and that a match to someone only on the X chromosome will not appear in FamilyFinder. I've made a couple of important breakthroughs with matches in 23andMe where we share very substantial...Last edited by ToddH; 24 January 2019, 12:20 PM.

Except there is no Iberian ancestry. The sister's result was correct: 0% Iberian. There is no distant Iberian ancestry that could possibly amount to 21%. They have the same four grandparents. FamilyFinder confirms a full sibling relationship. No need to make excuses for a really bad product....

siblings' results very different
I'm managing kits for a couple of siblings. Their ancestry is primarily colonial American almost all from British Isles with a little German. Don't know whether to laugh or cry at their results in new MyOrigins:
Scandinavian
brother...

Thank you! Sorting by match date in Family Finder is now in reverse chronological order on the first click. Seems like a minor detail but it makes a big difference!

"In common" option needs improvement
Currently it seems like the "In common" function doesn't work the way it used to. Before the update, I could search for a match by name and then choose the "in common" option and it would list all matches in common with that match from my entire list. Now, it only pulls "In...

Request for changes to "sorting" options
Please FTDNA,
When sorting by "Match Date", I can see no usefulness in sorting in chronological order. Whenever I log in I want to see the most recent matches first and have to click on this twice. Please change this feature to "Most recent first."
When...

Chromosome Browser does not distinguish between maternal/paternal DNA. So with a sibling you may share fully-identical DNA (same DNA inherited from both parents along one segment) or half-identical (same DNA inherited only from one parent), and it would look the same. If both of you upload to GEDmatch...

Results finally received for all 3 panels of Y-37 on my potential relative in batch 621 (turns out we are not related).
According to his profile, the results were posted two days ago, but I received no email notification (he has 23 matches at 37 markers), and my email address is the only...
