The Japanese population is now shrinking at the rate of about 1,000 people every day.
On the subject of your wider question one of my favourite blogs on this topic is at..

I must apologise to the forums for posting a figure without a citation. I have been looking for the study in question for the last half hour without success. If I find it in the coming days I will post a link. Failing that please regard my figure as suspect.

The study I read broke it down by subclade and included U152, U106, L21, some Z196 subclades and others. If you added the Z196 subclades to the P312* group the number was pretty high. Of course the P312* figure would include more than just Z196- people. I am trying to search for the study now in case...

I think that over 25% of the Irish may be DF27+. The reason its not be proven yet is that most studies only tested them for more recent subclades of DF27 that were well known in Iberia.

BigY+
Speculative question -I have head noting but...
Has anyone heard any rumours that FTDNA is considering or even developing a BigY+ type product that would sequence the regions of Y chromsome that the BigY tests either bypassed or gave intermittent coverage to?
Earl.

It's possible they would not match but unlikely. Have you tried comparing on Gedmatch. They could for example share a 10cM segment but be under 20cM in total so not picked up my the FTDNA matching algorithm.

I am not sure if anyone has got there quite yet but I was interested this week to see the latest progress being made by the Frankin and McFarland groups in the DF63 project. Here we can see sub branches within the same surname being defined, the occasional different surname clearly show as belonging...

To be confirmed for an SNP a person needs to have actually taken that particular SNP test.
In this case on of you has taken a U106 test and the other has taken the Z160 test. Z160 is a descendant of U106 as seen on this tree...

We this was originally supposed to be a good news post but I notice that none of the FTDNA stats have been updated since my original message 18 days ago.

So in summary we seem to have gone from a situation where hundreds of tests were being developed for a small to non existent audience to a situation where almost no new tests will get developed at all.
Not good either way.
Earl.
