Nortons of Kentucky - Bourbon, Pendleton, Green and Nicholas

The MRCA for this line is John Christopher Norton born about 1718 in england. He had 5 sons.

We have DNA samples from the decendants of three of these sons that all match establishing a DNA signature for this family.

The 5 sons are:

Thomas and William who were captured by the British at Charleston, SC during the Revolution. Thomas died on a Prison hulk and William remained in SC after the war ended. We have lost his line, but we know he is not from the Nortons of Marion and Horry, SC.

John and James came with their father to Bourbon, KY about 1784. John established in Bourbon but died in 1814. James established in Green, KY.

David went to SC probably with William but moved to Bourbon in 1790 to be with the rest of the family suggesting that William had died. David established in Pendleton, KY which later split to become Grant, KY. There is not relation with John Norton of Grant, KY.

Governor Thomas Francis Greene, second colonial governor of Maryland, was a direct male line descendant of the Norton male line that goes all the way back to Normandy. My maternal great grandfather was a descendant of the governor, but apparently his line has daughter out.
