  • Changes from myorigin

Well I think the myorigin is less accurate, because it has shown an entire country as being of my ancestral origin and I just wondered what the point of this is?..

I appreciate its nice to know others ethnic origin whilst searching family makes it easier.

But its not possible that a person can come from an entire country ethnically, parts of it perhaps. So why do the colors cover the entire country?

And before I was told I was certain ethnicities that have been left out entirely on this new map.

    Making me some what confused

I think it's useful if you have a rough idea of your heritage but for people with multiple ancestries from different part of the world it's too generic.

I'd recommend people with heritage from different countries upload their data to www.gedmatch.com, they have admixture tools that produce more granular results.

Very generic and I don't think it should have been used to replace the old system. The old system had specific places named and it blew me away with its accuracy.

Now the pretty colors just floating about make things a lot less specific. And also they are leaving some ethnicities out.

I do use gedmatch and again hopefully that puts greater light onto ones origins.

On Gedmatch I am also getting contradictory ethnicities, overall I am confused on a number of things now.

One has said I am german, another Norwegian and yet again this has said I am finnish.

Wonder who is more accurate or trust worthy on these issues?

The old Pop Finder was not accurate. It was way off for a large number of people. MyOrigins needs to be generic because too many people were taking the incorrect results of Pop Finder literally.

I can only speak for myself but for me the Eurogenes one was most accurate, I think that one has been made with Europeans in mind, so if your ancestry is exclusively European I'd go by that.

Thanks, yes I no noticed too that it is accurate. In regards to recent ancestry.

What is one meant to conclude when one says one thing entirely different from another?

When I meant the old system , I mean when they listed the percentages below and had the exact places, wish I had kept mine now.. for example mine said German, Finnish and a few other places and the sum percentages. And then a list below this and so on. It was picking up minute admixes. Now they have left it out entirely and I come from the whole of the UK .

I'd use the K13 as that has had it's population averages recently updated.

I was looking for that a few weeks ago. I was able to find it.

I hope that FTDNA publishes a similar spreadsheet, or other way to compare the source populations for myOrigins. That would help a lot of people understand why they have some of the results that they have.

That's what I thought, but it's not really that much more generic than Pop Finder. They're mostly using the same limited reference populations, now they're just hiding behind those goofy cluster descriptions.

In my view we should take admixture results with a grain of salt no matter which company we tested with and remember that each company/database uses different reference populations so will end up with different results.
