  • something does not make sense in the results

    Hi,

I don't understand something in my results:
My father - 100% Jewish diaspora
My maternal grandfather - 100% Jewish diaspora
My maternal grandmother - 90% Jewish diaspora, 10% North Mediteranean.

So i was expecting to have Jewish diaspora and North Mediteranean for my kit.
However, i got 95% Jewish diaspora which was expected and 5% Coastal plains.
What happened to the North Mediteranean of my grandmother?

I believe people get varying amounts of ethnic DNA from their paternal/maternal grandparents and it can differ from siblings too. It could be any amount really, it is not exact as such.

You probably didn't inherit any of those segments. They reside in the other 75% of DNA you didn't get from her.

I understand i might have not inherited the north mideteranean genes from her, this is not my problem.

The question is, if none of my direct ancestors have Coastal plains in their MyOrigins chart, where did i get 5% coastal plains from?

Most likely those two clusters overlap to some extent, and some chance combination of markers is causing MyOrigins to call that component "North Mediterranean" in your grandmother's results and "Coastal Plains" in your case.
