    Middle East-12%
    Jewish Diaspora-5%

Which is essentially my "old" PF:

    Western Europe-French, Orcadian-85.79% MOE=+/-5.69%
Middle East-Palestinian, Iranian, Jewish, Adygei, Bedouin, Bedouin South, Druze-14.21% MOE=+/-5.69%

    Things I like.

    1. They can break down my Jewish from the rest of my Middle Eastern.
    2. Though I didn't have the breakdown of clusters sent to me, I can see on the heat map the Trans Ural region is the darkest red, and makes more sense than Orcadian.

    Things I don't like.

Is this still a bogus Middle Eastern result? Is it real? is it recent? Is it ancient?

I want to add 23andMe does give me a breakdown for Ashkenazi and Middle Eastern, no where near as much as this. Dr. McDonald found 5.8% Sephardic for me though.
I am 100% Middle East- Jewish on PF now and I don't expect much change. There was some separation between Jewish lines and the other Middle Eastern lines on the old PF and my designation did not cover the other lines.

Jewish Diaspora is more accurate than Middle East Jewish because some Jewish SNPs are from Europe. I still have a few questions:
    1. Should the designation be Ashkenazi Diaspora rather than Jewish Diaspora. I am getting the impression based on a very limited sample, that Sephardis and Mizrachis show combinations of Jewish Diaspora and 'host region' clusters but Ashkenazis are mainly just Jewish Diaspora.
    2. In the description of the Jewish Diaspora cluster there is a statement that non Jews may have a Jewish signature but this does not imply common ancestry. This requires explanation. Does it mean that one's Jewish ancestors converted away from Judaism a long time ago. The statement about a Jewish Diaspora signature seems to go beyond the current observation that Jews and Southern Italians show similar admixtures of Near Eastern and European Mediterranean lines.

I agree that Jewish Diaspora is a more accurate statement, and I think FTDNA is maybe getting this percentage right for me with the slew of Jewish cousins I have on my chromosome 7, and my paternal line turning out to being Q1b1a. And thanks for all of your help in the past BTW!

What might be interesting to wonder is do the Sephardic and Mizrachis also show some Jewish Diaspora and also North African here? Someone suggested over at 23andme that the North African result could hint at Sephardic. On my heat map I can see Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia colored in green. The green is darker over Turkey, Syria, Iraq, and Georgia, Armenia (Caucasus) for me though. EDIT to add: I guess this is the Anatolian Crossroads cluster? So idk.

I just thought that the Middle Eastern might go away with this update because I figured they would be fixing the pull for those of us with Eastern/Central European roots. I can now see that the Trans Ural is in the darkest red for my map too, not France or the Orcadian folks.

EDIT to add: Well I shouldn't say France and Orcadian went away, those spots are still colored in for me, but not as dark red as the Trans Ural part of my map.

I couldn't possibly stay away with the upcoming PF update.

          • So they're having a webinar tomorrow on MyOrigins. Does that mean it will be released tomorrow?

            • Unknown Methodology.

I am beginning to wonder if the algorithms are based upon the matching principle of FF matches. This is completely speculative, but if true, your breakdowns might make sense, because from a matching standpoint they will. But if you have few close matches on FF, this might pose an issue (like it does for me), particularly when you compare it with your results on Gedmatch (which are much in conflict with mine).

I doubt you can assume that since FTDNA has webinars for group admins.

Elise had to have the webinar today because she wasn't available the rest of the week. that's all. MyOrigins is supposed to be released anytime now (i.e. this week) however. No exact date given.

                  • We listened to your feedback and just released a bunch of updates to myOrigins! Some of the most notable changes are:

                    1. Corrected a matching percentage bug. For example, if a user was 100% European, their matches were sometimes being displayed as 100% European even if they had a different admixture.
                    2. The "Shared Origins" and "My Ancestral History" tabs have been relocated to the top of the table instead of underneath it.
                    3. The scrollbars for the "Shared Origins" and "My Ancestral History" tabs are much wider. It's much easier to scroll now.
                    4. Several clusters have been redrawn including: Asian Northeast, North Mediterranean, European Coastal Plain, and Trans-Ural Peneplain.

                    • FTDNA's pushed out a few minor updates on the GAP page.

Transfer kits are now viewable without a URL address work around.

I see at least one heat map having a change of its colored area locations; North Mediterranean basin heat map now stretches to Spain.

You can now [expand all] to view the entire list % given.

Looks like its taking time to propagate out to all kits.

I attended the webinar for myOrigins this afternoon. The former North Mediterranean heatmap looked decent for the Greek and Maltese in my ancestry, although it didn't match the webinar's slide description of reaching into Spain. Now that it's changed to fit the description in the webinar, it seems to just miss Malta, and is not as intense over parts of Greece. Malta doesn't seem to fall within any of the population clusters, now.

                              • The change has happened. I clicked on my page, and "Population Finder" is gone. It is replaced with the new thing: "My Origins."
