Iam looking on the FTDNA website but still getting the old population finder results. Is the new version delayed for some?

Official release is, possibly, next week.

Ok Thanks. It was just that people we talking about the new version and how good it is.

Yes, it is confusing due to the selective release of the My Origins results and consequent public posting while the masses have no context for the public posts. You can get general information from the thread on PF/My Origins Clusters.

          • If it's good enough for some to see why isn't it good enough for all to see?

It's being beta tested right now. Not all kits are done yet which is one reason it is not public, for example the 23andMe transfers are still being worked.

I understand why it has been delayed. Why not limit discussion to a Yahoo Group. It is a tease (in a foreign language) for the rest of us. Very thankful for the webinar in a few days.

                • I'm a genealogist and I run a small private family project. If my mother had not tested on Ancestry, I would be looking for a recent NPE based on the new MyOrigins!

Myself and my double cousins have a population that neither of my parents have, so I'm not sure which side it would belong to, and one of my double cousins is 10% Jewish though no other family member has any Jewish.

My half-Sicilian father still shows up as over a third Middle Eastern, which is correct given the history of Sicily, but useless for a genealogist who wants other genealogists to know where to look for common ancestors.

After considering this for a day, I think the best thing for me to do is to opt out on all family members.

                  • But, ignoring the fact that it isn't correct, I really like what they gave me!!!

                    • Myorigins for me at least wasn't anymore accurate. Infact it was way too broad

                      • Considering that my 3 of my mother's grandparents came from the villages near the following cities in France, Germany and Luxembourg:Surbourg, Metz, Ahlen, Trier, Bramsche, Rosendahl, Luxembourg, I would expect 60-75% European Coastal Plain. Instead she got zero.

Some of these lines have been traced back to the 1600.

                        • I can't tell if I have the new or the old population finder. It says "beta" on it, and like the last one, it asks ME whether my middle eastern is 1) middle eastern 2) jewish 3) bedoin or 4) unknown/none of the above. New or old?

I don't know how far back aDNA "looks" in terms of generations and I don't know how they calibrate their algorithms against the reference data set.

It would be interesting to know if they can run a particular individual's data, such as your example, and see where it's hitting and missing based on known genealogy.

Everyone still has the old Population Finder. Currently, only project administrators can view the new Population Finder, which has been named myOrigins, through a special link in the GAP. It will become available to everyone very soon. And when it does, you'll very clearly see the difference

                              • I received my sneak peek. It did not have the break down of the clusters, but I saw the basic overview which is:

                                European-83%
                                Middle East-12%
                                Jewish Diaspora-5%

Which is essentially my "old" PF:

                                Western Europe-French, Orcadian-85.79% MOE=+/-5.69%
Middle East-Palestinian, Iranian, Jewish, Adygei, Bedouin, Bedouin South, Druze-14.21% MOE=+/-5.69%

                                Things I like.

                                1. They can break down my Jewish from the rest of my Middle Eastern.
                                2. Though I didn't have the breakdown of clusters sent to me, I can see on the heat map the Trans Ural region is the darkest red, and makes more sense than Orcadian.

                                Things I don't like.

Is this still a bogus Middle Eastern result? Is it real? is it recent? Is it ancient?

I want to add 23andMe does give me a breakdown for Ashkenazi and Middle Eastern, no where near as much as this. Dr. McDonald found 5.8% Sephardic for me though.
