Actually my nearest Y67 match (GD 2) is Scottish, but the connection is still due to his Viking and my apparently (before AD 1500) Swedish paternal ancestry. In Y111 results he and me are at GD 18!

The following document tells about some more recent Scotland-Finland commections: http://www.mesterton.net/briefscetch.pdf

My mother has mainly Lancashire and Cheshire ancestry. I know it is much farther back but most of her mtDNA matches are Scandinavian, Irish or German/Dutch.
My mtDNA Full matches with known European origins are not Finnish but from Germany (7), Norway (5), England (4), Scotland (2), Italy (1).

If you like, I'd be glad to furnish additional information.

    From Wikipedia:

Nordic Lutherans have worshipped in England since the 16th century, and the first official congregation was established in London in 1669, its members being Germans and Scandinavians. By the end of the 17th century, two further congregations (one German and one Nordic) had been established. Now there are Lutheran congregations in all parts of Britain and Lutheran worship is conducted in a wide range of languages, reflecting its international character - German, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, Danish and Icelandic

    11 73056723 75106414 2.25 500

I also feel that my match is due to a common ancestor way back in time. The most natural connective route is via Scandinavia, of course, and then you think about Vikings etc. But of course we all are so fed up with the Vikings already as a general answer to this kind of questions...

Do your mother have any common matches with the Finnish match? Me and the Englisman, we have three common matches.

It is probably way back if it is indeed IBD as we are British and this match has all Finnish ancestry

In my experience, tracing a connection for a possible relationship based on this level of matching is rarely successful, and even if you do spot a possible connection about 6 generations back, it may not be possible to prove that that shared ancestor is actually the one who is responsible for the match. To prove that the common DNA comes from a particular ancestor, you have to show not only that that ancestor appears in both pedigrees, but also that there is no other common ancestor lurking somewhere else in the same pedigrees. The farther back the match, the more difficult it is to be absolutely sure of the accuracy of both pedigrees.
