    • The southern colonials have it this week

I share three of my mother's 4 new matches: 2 southern colonials and 1 Swedish descendant. The 2 southern colonials are mutual cousins with one another. My mother's fourth match is another southern colonial.

No new matches for my dad this week.

      • I only have 3 new ones (now 423). I just noticed that one match from May has an email address in the UK. Largest block is only 7.70 cm. As far as I know, the only ancestors I have from there came over during colonial times. So she must be connected to a common ancestor from way back then.

          You can say that again!!!

My mother got 1 new match, a 2nd to 4th cousin this time, and all I get when I try to view her gedcom is "Houston We Have A Problem"!

Other than that my double cousins share 1 new match, and one of them got a new match the other did not.

          Zero for me.
None for my father since mid-April.

My first guess is she is connected to Daniel Boone's mother's branch (i.e.Welsh).

My half sister has a branch that some people have tied into the Boones. I chopped her Boone branch off her tree as I think to be incorrect. She has one maybe two matches with gedcoms containing the branch I chopped off. She has 12 matches out 1200 with the Boone surname. Her results are new on Ftdna and I haven't had much time to work with her kit.

              Also
I got 4 new matches while my half sister (results completed June 2) got 9. None of these were shared.
Several weeks ago I dropped my spreadsheet and started using the Genome Mate program in anticipation of my half sisters results due in. The ability to manage both accounts with Genome Mate has been great!

              • II'm not very versatile with all those utilities, etc. As for trees, I've got lots at Ancestry; some extensive (and mythological), and some chopped off. As for a Daniel Boone connection, it looks solid to me. I connect via a Puckett line. The Pucketts date back to early tidewater Virginia, and ultimately back to Oxfordshire, England. James Puckett married Margaret sara Linville, whose paternal line connects to Hannah Morgan, who in turn is a sister to Daniel Boone's mom (Sarah). They were mostly Quakers back then.

                • Five new ones (428). As usual, I don't recognize any of them. Look to be colonials, but with French and a bit of Danish in the included surnames. I notice one with the name Spears. There is a rumor that Britney Spears is somehow connected to a downstream southern colonial line.

                  • A few new matches this week

My mother and I share a new Finnish match. My mother also received a new Swedish match and my father, a new mystery distant cousin who has no common cousins with my dad.

Well, they slipped two more in for me (now 430). One is 2nd to 4th cousin, but I dodn't have a clue as to how she is related, based on the few surnames she provided. Since they are mostly from PA, it is probably my Green/Greene line (who married a Pennsylvania German).

I've been ignoring one thread on my maternal side. But it looks possible that I have another celebrity as a distant cousin. But I don't want to cause friction by revealing his name. Then I could be wrong.

Alright, I see now that any connection is quite distant, so I'll give my intuition. The connecting surname is Scarborough, of the Mississippi Scarboroughs. And I remember (I think) once that Joe Scarborough on "Morning Joe" mentioned that he has Mississippi roots.

                        • The clustering effect continues

A few more shared matches with my parents slipped in the other day: My mother and I share a Finnish match and my father and I share two Norwegian matches.

The majority clusters of matches that come up for my parents again and again? Norwegians and French-Canadians for my father and Finns, Swedes, New Englanders and southern U.S. colonials for my mother. And I share many of their matches and therefore the same clusters. Minority clusters? Acadians, Danes, eastern Europeans and some Jewish people for my father (and me).

The partial German ancestry of both parents? Rarely seen but more apparent on 23 and Me with descendants of German immigrants to Brazil and other places.

                          • I see that I have 2 new FF matches (now 432), both Scandies. Do they work on weekends down there in the sultry SE of Texas?

                            • Montana

My dad and I received a mutual Norwegian-related match with Montana roots. That made me happy as my paternal grandmother and other relatives once lived there. My mother received another Swedish match.

                              • I was hoping we'd get some new matches today before the start of the long holiday weekend. None of my kits have received any new matches since June 20.
