Thanks for your reply, JSW. I guess I did pretty well getting the 300 matches with a single colonial great grandparent.
I've barely skimmed the 30 pages but have quite a few Norwegian matches as well as one from Wollin Island which was a nice confirmation of my most distant maternal ancestress.
Could my decent number of matches be related to a 6% ME/North African result? There is a rumor of a great great grandparent being Ashkenazi.
Yesterday I got 13 new matches, none have a gedcom, 8 have no surnames. And the real kicker is 5 are overlapping a chromosome 2 segment that I already have several 2nd to 4th cousin matches on and yet to figure out!
Totals for this month to date: 27 new matches, 1 with gedcom, 15 with no surnames, have determined shared ancestry of 1 match out of the 27.
My mother reached 359 matches this week. Both of her parents had British North America colonial ancestors (New England + the southern colonies) but they also had more recent immigrant ancestors.
My dad reached 134 matches. He had one grandparent of French-Canadian and Acadian ancestry but the remaining three grandparents were children of recent immigrants to North America.
This week I have a total of 293 matches. My parents and I share cousins, perhaps most. But a few have surfaced who appear only on my list.
Thanks for the figures about the matches to Colonial GG parents ratio. I am guessing since I got 300 off the bat they will now only be coming in in dribs and drabs at best.
A few more matches came in yesterday. I share a French-Canadian descendant with my father. I share a southern U.S. colonial descendant with my mother. Extra distant cousins we do not share: I have another French-Canadian; my father has two Norwegians and my mother has one Swedish match.
Variations of the ancestral French name Brazeau are beginning to show up with increasing frequency. My 3x great-grandmother's maiden name was Brazeau.
My father had one French-Canadian/Acadian grandmother. My mother has numerous French Huguenot ancestors in her British North America colonial branches.
My results came in at the beginning of the week. I have since had 13 new matches added. Does that mean 13 new people just tested and just got their results or is my match list still calculating and populating from the existing pool?
Your initial matching was done at the beginning of the week. all 13 added through the week are new batches coming in and being matched against existing data base. This week batch 560 FF came in on 19.04.2014 and batch 565 FF came in on 22.04.2014. For example batch 563 is in the pipeline and results are not posted yet.
I´m german and counting 96 matches until now. In germany people use to say
"Planet earth is a village". Seems to be true . Now I´m waiting for my Y-DNA 37 results.
