  • Is there a way to turn off these matches which represent the basal/standard matches of the tree you belong and only receive matches which have the non-standard markers.

the standard markers for my tree do not give me any information........to me it like saying .........we have people that match you because you have 2 hands and so do they

      • Swedish and Southern Colonial matches

My mother received 5 new matches last night (dated Feb. 15) and I received 2. The two I have I share with my mother -- they are southern U.S. colonial descendants. Two of the three remaining new matches of my mother are of Swedish ancestry. The third appears to be a mixture of Swedish ancestry and southern U.S. colonial descendant background.

One of my mother's grandmother's was an immigrant from Sweden. That grandmother's husband (my mom's grandfather) had a mother who was born in Kentucky and her ancestors lived in Virginia and Maryland. A large percentage of my mother's matches (here and on 23 and Me) are descendants of southern colonials.

          • I could use a new match, I haven't had any since the beginning of January! However, I'm thinking the Who Do You Think You Are Live convention in London will help me out as soon as those results are posted...

                • Thanks for the tip. More matches today across most of my 9 kits than I have had for a while including the largest cM on my own kit I have ever had in 3 years if I exclude the people I funded myself and the the new match only seem to live a few miles away. Of course I have no idea how they relate even though I think I have most of my 4th cousins recorded now. Best new match was over 90 cM total and 37.5 cM largest!

                  Earl.

                  • I'm now at 368, with 3 new FF matches. But one of them didn't even give his or her name. I guess they don't want to be related to me. Well, it's only 8.+ cm for the longest block. Another new match is quite strong, landing on my second page (out of 37 pages). That one looks to be colonial related.

Total of over 3000 matches for each kit i manage....

Without revealing his name, the largest shared block may descend from Daniel Boone's mother. I saw on his tree that one of his lines comes from Squire Boone (Jr). Squire Boone Sr. married Sarah Morgan, while her sister married Thomas Linville in my line. His tree at the maximum shown of 9 generations doesn't go back as far as my 9 generations, due to him being younger. If this is the source of that longest block, then it is Welsh.

Well, I don't know. What with the long list of surnames that goes with the above Match, it could be a closer in time connection. It is supposed to be 3 to 5th cousin. So that may rule out 1700s connection (Boone).

As for the new match who did not give her name, I see that her email address is in Sweden ("SE"). It has a 9.+ cm for longest block.

                            • I have 2 new matches today. Total now 106 matches. The new ones are not showing up anywhere besides the chromosome browser yet (which has happened before, so no biggie). I always try to look t the browser first, if I'm looking for new matches.

Yeah, I do the same thing; look first at the Chromosome browser to check the total number of matches. As of today I have 374 (6 new ones). One is as close as 2 to 4th cousin, but I don't recognize the name.
