Congratulations. It's tough to make use of any of this stuff, I think, unless you have at least 100 people to kinda compare off one another.

      • Thank you, those these will be tough - 2 are probably in same immediate family of each, and other matches someone else on In Common With, but not with Matrix. All 3 are relatively smallish lengths.

I guess this sounds trite, but I want to say something like "At least it's something."

I guess you could have 1,000 matches and you'd only be able to use some of them. Nearly 30% of my matches all share a single segment on chromo #9, so I'm pretty sure that most if not all of them are bogus. There's no way this Belfast housewife who is one of my matches shares recent ancestry with this Eurotrash banker from Bonn who is another.

Even if there's some level of attrition, at least there's something to sort through.

          • Thank you, I get the point. It would have been helpful for me (& millions more) if most of a thousand years of Irish records didn't burn early in the last century

            • I found three confirmable matches, though two were distant, based on the family tree information that could be confirmed by a paper trail. As for the rest of my matches, I do not know their exact connection to me other than almost all are from the same country as me.

              • Swedish & Finnish matches

Of the new matches that came in, I share all 4 of mine with my mother. Two of those shared maternal matches are definitely Swedish in origin; one other is definitely Finnish. My father had no new matches this time. My mother's grandmother immigrated from Sweden, born in an area that had been settled by ethnic Finns centuries beforehand.

My mother has 7 total new matches. Besides what I have already noted, she has an extra Swedish match plus a match that is definitely German (geographically) although the family might have had Scandinavian origins. My mother usually gets British North American colonial matches, but I see none this time -- at least with the information provided so far by matches.

Six new, at least one Ancestry.com transfer.

                    • My 5 kits got 2 new matches total. 1 shared by Mom and myself. 1 shared by my Dad and two cousins. I'll never get anywhere at this rate!

                      • One of our matches is Sicilian. And I got 2 new Sicilian matches at 23andMe last week. One of them was very close, but we found that we both descend from cousin-cousin marriages among the grandchildren of my 3rd great-grandparents.

My Sicilian line however, is not the one where I have problems!!! I'm trying to break down colonial American brick walls!!! And I'd like to get somewhere with my Abruzzo, Italy line.

                          • When I checked today (my birthday) my mother was the big winner with 7 new matches. I share a French-Canadian match with my dad and a New England match with my mom. My mother' matches include 3 Swedes and 1 southern U.S. colonial descendant (her dad's side) and 2 New England descendants (her mom's side). The ancestral name Goodrich (found in my maternal grandmother's branch of the known family tree) is starting to appear more and more.

                              • Surely the last 2 times there were new matches they were from transfers, not new batches???

On the 25th not one of the 5 kits I manage got a new match, today 2 of the kits got 1 match each.

Things are getting worse all the time it looks like! My mother received 71 new matches in the last 7 days at Ancestry, but only 1 (5th to remote, no surnames listed) here!!!
