New Matches Coming In

2 more matches. Now have 64. Both of which match some others of mine. All apparently on my mom's side. Would like some on my dad's side that match each other, but so far, none apparently. A transfer I did of a match t 23andMe did not match me here.

A couple of new matches for me, my maternal uncle, my 3rd and 2nd cousin twice removed each.

The biggest deal this batch is that results came in for my 2nd cousin once removed and she triangulates with my uncle and an unconfirmed suggested 3rd cousin my uncle has had for over a year, which we have not been able to segment and identify.

This match shares the following segments with my uncle and his 2nd cousin:

19cM, 18cM, 16cM and 15cM

Segments between suggested 3rd and our 2nd cousin:
18cM, 16cM, 31cM, 13cM and 27cM

Only one new match for me. Looks to be an American, maybe UK. No ancestral surnames listed, in the remote cousin range. When I just tried looking at my chromosome browser to check my grand total quick, it would not load. Hopefully that doesn't last long.

My Dad's FF results came in on 26th June and he had a good number of matches - we did a transfer from 23andme and the quality of matches was much much better although there were considerably less! (That didn't worry me though.)

Since then there have been no new matches at all - judging by comments on this thread that isn't totally surprising, but being new to FTDNA I just wanted to check there's nothing I have missed - it will just update itself presumably?

how often do new matches come up, on average? I've been here for a month and still have my original 65 matches.

Alll of my matches are quite distant. At 23andme you need to "turn on" close matches. Is it the same here?

A few 3rd Cousins

I transfered my results from 23 & Me to FT DNA and the results became available today. There are a number of 3rd cousins and two from North Carolina which is interesting. I have also submitted the Y-DNA 67 test, but that will not be ready until the last of next month. I just hope a couple of these 3rd cousins answer my email.

I'm skeptical of suggested 3rd cousins through FTDNA. The only ones I trust are if there are at least 4 segments over 7cM on different chromosomes.

I just saw that I have 4 new matches in FF (233 >237), but low level. One has an email in Canada, while another doesn't give out an email or any other info. Only one gives a couple of surnames. One is given as a 4th cousin (I forget whIch one that was), while there is no suggested relationship for the others at this time. Even 4th cousin is a very long time ago for a common ancestor, being before the Civil War (at my age).

My mother and I continue to average about 5 matches each. My father, on the other hand continues to get very few matches each time with an average of 1 or 2.

All three of us get many more matches on 23 and Me, but most of them are nameless. Still, my father, especially, gets matches on 23 and Me that reflect his mixed background -- with many more French-related matches. I have slso seen a growing number of 23 and Me matches contact me first, which is surprising.

With FTDNA, I am more concerned that the company improve Population Finder.

I have one new match, dated yesterday (July 24th). It's a Norwegian connection, but also with upper Midwest people among the surnames given. So there must be others of you out there with new matches too.

Thanks for the heads-up! I got 3 matches, 1 is a predicted 3rd. My son got 2 matches, my nephew got 3 matches.

By rough estimation there are 5394 new kits sold during the sale - I bough one kit at the beginning and another today 26.07. So for sure in the next months we will see a lot of matches coming in!!
