  • 5 new for my maternal uncle's kit. One of these (a predicted 4th cousin to my uncle) also matches me.

Just for the record, I want to state that one of the 56 that I received a few days ago is not overpredicted. That one, predicted as a 5th cousin to remote, is a known fourth cousin once removed whom I was in contact with in 1996 and again in 2002. The multirelationships between European Jews as well as self-relationships obscure actual relationships of this variety which would be marginally predictable otherwise.

              • Do you see? They alphabetized the names on the "in common with" list. Yea!

                • I notice that 4 new ones were added, for a total of 167. These latest are all low level matches and on chromosomes with high numbers: #15(2), #20, and # 22. Maybe that points back to the king of North Wales?

                      • Yes the improvement to the "in common with" list is great. Maybe management does read these forums and acts on them. I have a suggestion that seems to be the next logical evolution of "in common with". Make the assignment in the known relationship column for new matches DEFAULT to "distant cousin" initially. I constantly explain to new matches the importance of setting that field, but for a new user it is tedious to assign sometimes hundreds of matches.

fwiw, I've used the feedback button on the site before to give suggestions and got sensible responses back about them. ("no we can't sorry" or "yeah, that bugs me too, I'll bring it up" )

I am happy they did this too. It used to be such a chore to go through the list once a match was labeled "distant cousin." The in common with function remains one of my favorite tools on Family Finder, especially when a lone match with no common cousins suddenly begins to acquire some.

                              • Another ~13 for each of my kits, nothing closer than weak (Ashkenazi) 3rd, which is fairly non-conclusive for me.

I'm hoping between the holidays and the on-going sales event, we're entering a couple of months of rapid growth.
