Wow, congratulatyions! That must feel amazing. I remember when I found my 3rd great grandmother in the census back in the 90s I got up and did a little dance in the library. Someday I hope to find my grandfather and be as lucky as you are today.

Today I got 3 for me and 3 for my mother. Nothing too close. Maybe next time.

    • Matches Today!!

I did get new matches too! Two! I am the slow one in the family.
My husband got 10, as did my son, my daughter got 11 and the oldest girl got 7. Most don't have any info listed and they most are 4th 5th cousins.

      • neat, bunch of new folks.... one that could even maybe perhaps be a 3rd cousin.

I don't know whether to be chuffed or miffed that a lot of them seem to be in new areas on chromosomes for my matches... less change of matching a batch of people, more chance of finding someone new I guess.

                      • I'm awaiting results that were submitted in late August and were in batch 479. The new FF results appear to have been from later batches, up to and including 484, I think.

There's a message on the page for this kit that indicates the results are now expected on November 5. Based on what I've read on the forum, it's the standard boilerplate:

Your expected date has recently been updated to reflect the current timeframe for your results to be ready. We sincerely appreciate your continued patience and cooperation. One of the following circumstances applies to you: 1) We have recently received your DNA collection kit and have begun testing. 2) Multiple attempts have been made to test the DNA we had stored in our lab. All attempts failed to pass our strict quality control standards. If we have no additional vials of DNA stored, you will be sent an additional collection kit so that we may continue testing. 3) We are waiting for you to return the DNA collection kit we sent to you. The expected date only applies to those of you who have remaining DNA stored in our lab for testing.

Pretty opaque, and while I plan to try and get FTDNA on the phone for an explanation, I'd be interested in hearing from others if they've had this happen and how things have played out. I'm assuming they had to re-run the sample, but there's been no notice that the testing failed or that a new kit is being sent. Should I be worried?

                        • A pretty good week

My mother and I received the most matches, as usual, with my father in third place. Many of my mother's matches are also my matches but I believe my dad and I only have one mutual distant cousin together this time.

One thing about all of this lately: I am beginning to pay close attention to mutual matches I have with my mom who are also matches to my dad's distant cousins -- but not to him.

                          • Just to follow-up, I spoke to a very helpful customer service person at FTDNA. . .I've read a fair number of complaints on various threads, but I must say he was very helpful and very clear. The kit in question fell just barely under the acceptable call rate, and the test is being rerun.

                            • Same thing happened to one of my FF kits in Batch 479.

Does anyone know of any FF kits from 479 that were completed?

                              • I now have 163 matches; a jump from 155. Twp of these new ones, dated 10/23/12, are on my first page. But I don't recognize the names.
