However, I still have chr #9 match for a Hunt, who was the other person I tried to match with Bennett. What it's starting to look like is that I was barking up the wrong tree. But I'm still within the larger Phillips tree. The possible mother of Charity (or whatever her real name was) may have been Keziah Hunt. The only positive date having anything to do with her is a transcribed marriage record for 1737 in New Jersey (Stephen Biles). Her maternal line, then, would mean another U5 line separate from the other line I was following. It may go back to an Elizabeth Potter, born in New Haven, CT. There is at least one Potter with my HVR1 on SMGF, but I'll have to check to make sure.
I did a quick tracing of this (apparently mine) maternal line back to Buckinghamshire, England: a Lady Elizabeth Fisher, born in 1495. She married Sir Roger North 1489-1547. I wonder how much of this is a fairy tale, and whether I should count it. This is on Ancestry.com.

    • I have 2 Keziah Hunts in my database. One is my 4th great-grandmother. She born around 1786 and was the daughter of Samuel Hunt and Sarah (Titus?). She married John S. Griggs (parents unknown) 29 Dec 1802 in Sussex Co., NJ. Samuel Hunt's mother was Mercy Hull and I've had several DNA matches in her line, but nothing yet in Hunt, Griggs, or Titus?, that I've recognized anyway.

The other Keziah Hunt was the daughter of the Ralph Hunt, who wrote a will on 5 November 1732 at Maidenhead, Hunterdon Co., NJ.

Thanks for your input. Of course this is still tentative on my part. My Keziah is your "other" Keziah, daughter of [Ralph 2 Capt. Hunt, 1656 Queens, Long Island - 1733 Maidenhead, Hunterdon, New Jersey]. That's info I got on Ancestry.

The thought occurred to me that Charity (or whatever her official name was) could've been a British officer's daughter. Her father, Stephen Biles, may have been an officer in the British army. That would explain the complete lack of any kind of records, except his marriage record. He may have been stationed down to North Carolina in order to quell the Regulator Movement. And assuming he survived the Revolutionary War, took his family back to England. His renegade daughter Charity married a rebel (=Patriot for the US side). There was a gap of several years between the first child, William (b.1778), and all the rest. Charity's first daughter was Keziah, born either in 1780 or (more likely) about 1793. What happened in those intervening years? Maybe she was also taken back to England, and later returned to her husband Jacob Falconbury. Do I have an imagination, or what!?

          • Hmm... I noticed another chromosome #9 match. And it looks like it has nothing to do with British. This person has mostly ancestors from Alsace (France). But one of the surnames zeroes in on my maternal Greene line. That seems to prove that there was no NPE cuckold event. That dark hair of my grandmother, when she was a toddler (old photo), may have been from her Welsh streak (Wheeldon line). I only knew her with white hair.

            • PDHOTLEN,

If one of your problems is that the Charity's relations seem to be both in New Jersey and in North Carolina, read up on the Coxe Affair. Just Google it.

Whew! My old eyes easily tire when reading something lengthy. But that land scam looks familiar. Charity (alias?), Keziah's daughter(?), married Jacob Falconbury (variations in spelling) in Anson or Richmond County, NC (1777?); the counties on either side of the Pee Dee River. The reason Jacob was there in the first place, according to a paper seen on a Falconberry website, is that his father and uncles (born in New Jersey) were in a similar scam situation in Augusta County (formerly part of Orange County), Virginia. They couldn't get a title to their lands because of a dispute over land title in the first place. The original owner (British aristocrat) did not give permission for another official to sell the land. So Jacob's father/uncles moved down to Anson County where they were given patents on virgin lands opened for settlement. Later, during the Regulator insurrection, Jacob's father Isaac was involved in some way, and that was a prelude to the Revolutionary War. Well, that's the way it all looks to me at this point.

Many, many thanks! I was struggling to understand why I have so many autosomal matches in NC and surrounding states without any paper trail there. I have ancestors from Amwell and Maidenhead townships in Hunterdon County, so this link interests me a great deal.

I have one match for chromosome #20 that has two surnames that are also on Keziah's maternal line; although back in the 1600s (Townsend and Wood). The few matches I have for chr #20 look rather Catholic or could be Catholic; or maybe I'm just imagining things. Maybe there was a conversion to Catholicism along the way. Townsend goes back to Norfolk, England, and Wood goes back to Buckinghamshire.

The genealogical portion of that information may have come indirectly thru the New York Genealogical Society, that I bumped into online. Then there's the Potter connection on SMGF, also in Keziah Hunt's lineage.

I think this thread has well moved away from new matches coming in....

agreed. perhaps a new thread can be created for this other topic?

                          • I don't think that any matches have been posted since 8/10/12. Before that we also had a long interval without matches reportedly due to FTDNA rerunning the entire database. Is FTDNA moving away from the one-update-per-week mode?

                            • It was never regularly once a week. I recall towards the end of last year it was running 14-17 days between updates. I'm not certain why it varies, though.
