New Matches Coming In

You are lucky! I tested mtDNA in 2005, then upgraded periodically, eventually to FGS. And I have never had a single match beyond HVR1. No HVR2, no FGS. So the mtDNA hasn't been particularly useful, other than the fun of knowing I have distant ancestry in Mesopotamia.

Now, Family Finder -- my matches just went up today from 8 to 66. And at least one of them I am pretty certain I have an idea where the connection is, though looking at my records, it is going to be hard to prove. (Both of us descended from what is probably the same uncommonly-named family in the same location, but I've never been able to prove my gggg-grandmother's parents, so I can't prove the connection. But it seems pretty likely.) So, yay!

I don't know if you are in the same situation as I am regarding mtDNA, but when I went almost 2 years without ANY new mtDNA matches, I emailed FTDNA and asked them why. The reply said that I had an unusual DNA signature. Not sure exactly what that meant, but it is the reason for my low number of mtDNA matches. Maybe you can ask FTDNA about your results also.

One new match for me dated 3/29/2012, for a total of 204. Although the match is dated 3/29/12, it did not show up for me until the evening of 3/31/12.

4 of my 5 kits haven't had any new matches since 3/19/2012.

Last kit got a new match on 3/9/2012.

When you look at your Family Finder Matches page the default setting is "Close and Immediate". If none of your close or immediate relatives have tested, it may look like you have no matches. Be sure to click the drop down menu and choose "Show All Matches".

I wish we could change the default setting to "Show All Matches".

If you wait five seconds it automatically reloads to "Show All Matches."

My mother's account just got 2 new matches. No new ones for mine or my cousin's. I haven't had a new match since Feb 29.

Still nothing new since March 20th for me (just one came in). I only had two new matches arrive in March. Hopefully the Easter Bunny will leave me a few new close matches overnight.... Seems like things have slowed down, at least for me they have.

My transfer happened on 2/20/2012. I've had only one additional match since then on 2/28. I was expecting I'd have a second today with my Mom's 23andMe transfer didn't happen for some reason.

I'd heard things were going much better on that front but it looks like I lose again.

My son got 2 distant matches, I got 3 matches (one a predicted 4th cousin). My nephew got 3 matches (one a predicted 3rd cousin - who is the same person as my predicted 4th).

Given I don't have an awful lot in total, I have been very pleased with the amount of matches this year. (One of them I wonder if it is a false match though, or if it is very old, but that is a different matter than the topic at hand.)

April 14. I got one match, my nephew got one match. Both are 5th to remote. My son got none.
