I do not think that is the reason.
Where did you read that?
I have been in contact with FTDNA administrators and they say it is because the Omni data is more accurate.

Its not really cost or accuracy... the actual reason they are removing the Affy has to do with the fact that they do not support Affy anymore. There's a whole lot of reasons they don't support Affy but they'll have to answer that.
I think they are just waiting for all the tests to really be completed. Some came in yesterday so its now less than 114 to be completed - but not sure how many are still out there, if any.Last edited by mkdexter; 12 May 2011, 02:33 PM.

I based it on this comment by Matt:From what I gathered in my discussion this morning, from FTNDA's point of view it is a supporting Affy issue. They can't support Affy anymore and have moved to a new platform. They want to focus on Illumina and supporting it. They told me having the Affy matches listed may lead to questions they can no longer research or support.

More food for thought; My 4th cousin and myself have our own genealogy trees, we are in the same family. She is in the East, I am in the West. We took the FF test, we did not match, not in Affy or Illumina.. Because of our family history, I was struck w/ horror; who was my mother's father, my Grandfather?
Ancestors are dead. I had a sister put up for adoption in the 1950's. [ I found her last year ] She knows nothing, of course. I had a very upsetting winter..
A few days ago I uploaded my Affy & Illumina data to Gedmatch. My cousin and I match !!
On both platforms...
Never mind all the DNA explainations, I have been reading this forum since 2003. I may be 1 in a million but like the the Starfish you throw back into the ocean, I count. And so do all the rest of you.
PS Matt I sent you a message, maybe that doesn't work either ?

I based it on this comment by Matt:
And as he's already commented, expences had nothing to do with it and that reason was a creation of my imagination. Sorry about that!
