Here's an FYI.
I had a FF Affy match that did not show up on my mother's list. For a time I thought this person was a paternal match due to not matching my mother but I knew we can't go by the excluded matches, only the included ones, when the segments shared are small, like a 5th cousin's in this case. Then I saw there was a HIR match for my mother and I both to this person. I began to suspect that Affy had missed it and this person was a maternal match of mine after all.
Today when my mother's Illumina resuts appeared I found out HIR was right and Affy was wrong. This person, a 5th cousin predicted, is my maternal match, not paternal match after all.
It's nice to see in this case where HIR picked up a match that Illumina was accurate enough to pick it up as well. Sure this is probably not a problem in the 3rd and 4th cousin ranges but those 4th to distant and 5th to distant ones just may be found by Illumina when Affy missed them.
