  • Amazing # of kits overlapping on chromo 2

    Hi, all!

While researching a dna match on gedmatch.com, I looked at the kits that match both of the 2 kits in question, then I looked at most of those kits through the chromo browser. I ended up with a large number of kits overlapping on chromo 2 - more than I've encountered before, with significant cMs - from the teens on up to 34.8 cM. 11 kits looks to be the maximum number of kits that gedmatch.com will run through chromo browser at one time.

Is this significant? Does it mean that all of these kits share a common ancestor that should be easily determined? I was just reading about dna pileup, and this portion of chromo 2 isn't cited as being a "pileup" area.

Thanks, much, on any thoughts on what this chromo 2 overlap means.

    Mary,

I think there might be something there. Are these people related to you? If so, is your kit number in group with the others.?

I doubt if the larger segments are IBD. I think they are segments that are reconstructed by parents being related to a common ancestor. These segments will match though so that causes a lot of confusion. Me, my mother, and cousins from a particular branch of my family seem to be matching these kits on some smaller segments in that range on #2.

    Very interesting!
