  • Experiment: Ashkenazi people shared cm

    Hi,
    following this post :
    http://forums.familytreedna.com/show...d=1#post394468

I decided to make an experiment.
If you are Ashkenazi and took the FF test, please share total cm and longest block with your known relatives. All of the Ashkenazi genetic genealogy community would greatly benefit from it.

    My data:

    Father:
    Total : 3384
    Longest : 267
    Maternal Grandmother:
    Total : 1912
    Longest : 207
    Maternal Grandfather:
    Total : 1561
    Longest : 152

    I hope people will participate

My results are listed below for several cousins and my son. My observation has been that ACTUAL 2nd and 3rd cousins are correctly identified. The problem is that A LOT of people I know for certain CANNOT BE EITHER 2nd or 3rd are also (mis) identified.

Full Name Shared cM Longest Block
    Maternal 1st 845 70
    Paternal 1st 732 88
    Paternal 2nd 280 50
    Maternal 2nd 236 25
    Maternal 2nd 232 36
    Maternal 3rd 159 43
    Son 3379 267

For completeness these are the results for my son (see mine up). In his case would have been practically impossible to recognize some of the 2nd or 3rd cousins once removed:

        Father 3379 267
        Mat Gfather 1762 160
        Mat Gmother 1717 154
        1c1R 410 88
        1c1R 467 60
        2c1R 116 21
        2c1R 138 19
        2c1R 148 13
        3c1R 87 11

I'd be really interested in seeing the size of second and third longest blocks for known relatives - first cousins and more distant – and also the totals with under 5 cM segments excluded.
