          Dr. McDonald was kind enough to update my results. I had noticed that he also added Poland and Germany to the results, so I thought I would ask him. I just asked him if he could redo my mom's as well so I can compare. Mine changed and now my painting shows more Middle Eastern than her painting. I also picked up more South Asian on my X which my Mom had a lot of on her previous painting. I liked that my painting retained the East Asian on the X, and on chromosome 3, and picked up now on my chromosome 12. I also still have the small African on my chrome 4 as well.

          The automated computer results are as follows.

          Please read the attached .rtf file for an explanation of how to

          interpret all the data and plots. Both can be misleading without interpretation.

            Family results

            I am adopted but I learned from records that my maternal ancestry is English. Paternally, the closest Y-DNA matches are from the Carpathian Mountain regions of Poland, Slovakia, the Ukraine and Romania. Other than that I have no record of my male line. Here's what Dr. McDonald came up with:

            Most likely fit is 82.7% (+- 4.6%) Europe (all Western Europe)

            and 12.6% (+- 3.6%) Europe (all Northeast Europe)

            which is 95.3% total Europe

            and 4.7% (+- 1.3%) Mideast (various subcontinents)

            The following are possible population sets and their fractions,

            most likely at the top

            English= 0.809 Russian= 0.147 Georgian= 0.044 or

            English= 0.774 Finland= 0.164 Georgian= 0.063 or

            English= 0.831 Russian= 0.119 Adygei= 0.050 or

            English= 0.812 Finland= 0.122 Adygei= 0.066 or

            English= 0.809 Russian= 0.152 Armenian= 0.039 or

            English= 0.830 Russian= 0.129 Turkish= 0.042 or

            English= 0.773 Finland= 0.171 Armenian= 0.057 or

            English= 0.911 Chuvash= 0.059 Adygei= 0.030 or

            English= 0.910 Chuvash= 0.066 Georgian= 0.025 or

            English= 0.809 Finland= 0.134 Turkish= 0.058

            None of the non-English populations should be taken as actually being your ancestors ...

            they just indicate a direction (geographically) away from England where SOME

            ancestry comes from. In other words, mostly English with some Continental European

            My wife is French, Italian and English. PF showed 100% French. Dr. McDonald's report was also quite difinitive.

            Most likely fit is 100% French (Western Europe)

            which is 100% total Europe

            The location error = 0.008566 with 1 group

            The following are possible populations,

            most likely at the top:

            The following are possible population sets and their fractions,

            most likely at the top

            French= 1.000

            French DNA is so close to the average of English and Italian that

            no one can relaibly distinguish mixes.

            Interestingly on five of her chromosome paintings, the bottom half was Mideast from start to finish (8, 14, 18, 21 and 22). The other parts were European with a sliver of Africa.

              Dr. McDonald sent my Mom's new results today. I had originally sent them to him in only Feb., but he did not have the new populations then. So his new samples are Sephardic, Germany, and Poland too. Sicily is there as well. Not sure if any of you guys noticed those new ones. It took me awhile to realize. I had just thought that it was only the Sephardic that was new. That was why I wasn't going to ask him to redo mine as he didn't give a Middle East percentage for me the first time. I figured I would ask him now because of the German and Polish samples. And he sees Sephardic at an average of 5.8% for me. He sees no Jewish for my Mom (no surprise). Makes me wonder if the Jewish matches I see in FF are an old Sephardic link my father had?

              As my Mom is half Southern Italian with ancestry from an Albanian village on her father's side these results may be of interest to the Southern Italians/Sicilians out there. Her mother's side Colonial, German/Dutch. He gave her no overall ME percentage this time, (last time it was 22.1% Middle East) but in the hand fit take note of what he indicates about Cypriots. Her painting is now half ME, which is what I would expect it to be if mine became more ME as well.

              Most likely fit is 26.8% (+- 13.7%) Europe (various subcontinents)

              and 73.2% (+- 13.7%) Europe (all Southern Europe)

              which is 100% total Europe

              which is fitting very well ... clearly the Cypriot, while wrong,
              is substituting for Albanian. I treid Jewish, its very clear there is none.

                I'm suprized there is no Jewish found for your mom, given the amount of ME on her chromosomes. Me being over Half Southern Italian, Druze, Sephardi seem the most likely. Dr. McDonald gave me 18-20% ME.

                  Yes it seemed a little odd not to have the Middle Eastern breakdown for her this time, especially since she has even more Middle Eastern on her painting compared to the first time. The first time her groups that he gave for Middle East had been Armenian, Georgian, and Druze. In his hand fit for her this time, he has the Cypriot, but he said it is a stand in for her Albanian. The Armenians and Georgians are from the Caucasus area, and Alexandr creator of 4 oracle told me that Albanians would have Caucasus, so maybe his first reading was more right? One of her Italian lines is not from the Albanian village, I am still trying to figure out the town for that branch.

                  For me he told me the 5.8% Sephardic, but still gave an overall breakdown of European for me, so I'm not quite sure why he had it like that.

                    He did my mom's but had some difficulty with hers. Sigh. His error rate was over 15% which was even higher than PF's rate of 10+%.

                    Her mother (my grandmother) was 100% Ukrainian or Russian/Polish Jew and her Father was 50% Italian (Abruzzi- with possible origins from Albania) and 50% Westphalian German.

                    I am not sure why he isn't seeing Italian in her initial percentage and just "Europe". And why he is having so many problems with her mix? I really wish GEDMATCH was up and running so I could put it through some various models.

                    This is what he came up with. He could not just do the two sample mix as it did not correlate properly so he had to use 4 populations.

                    Most likely fit is 45.2% (+- 15.1%) Europe (various subcontinents)
                    and 54.8% (+- 15.1%) Mideast (various subcontinents)

                    The following are possible population sets and their fractions,
                    most likely at the top
                    English= 0.345 Jewish= 0.655 or

                    I tried a custom fit and get

                    English 0.2655 Spain 0.1105 Jewish 0.5134 Georgian 0.1107 or

                    English 0.2869 Italian 0.0967 Jewish 0.5135 Georgian 0.1029 or
                    English 0.3474 Sicily 0.0187 Jewish 0.5247 Georgian 0.1093 or
                    Germany 0.1605 Spain 0.2446 Jewish 0.4853 Georgian 0.1096 or
                    Italian 0.2519 Germany 0.1815 Jewish 0.4783 Georgian 0.0883 or

                    Germany 0.1986 Tuscan 0.2837 Jewish 0.4643 Georgian 0.0533

                    It appears I can’t beat the two-population “automatic” fits without adding Caucasus. Perhaps
                    this is representing Albania? The fits, even the best ones, are not really excellent. But if you
                    average just the non-Jewish in the four-pop fits above, it fits what you expect ON AVERAGE,
                    well enough. I never see Sephardic.

                      Dr MacDonald

                      I would like Dr MacDonald to look at my DNA results and make comments - I am told that I have 35 pages of 2nd - 5th cousins although my fathers family is American my Mothers is British - both her parents families lived in the County of Cornwall for over 600 years. Only 3 members immigrate to the USA and Canada in the late 1800's - so how can 94.73% Western European - I am told because of the mixture of people from different countries marring but because Cornwall is an isolated county at the toe of England where people have intermarried for generations within the county.
