  • I don't have my half-brother's original build 36 numbers, but day before yesterday they were:

    1511.16/100.11

    Today they are:

    1529.4/99.82

I'm not tech savvy enough to know how or why this should be or what it might suggest.

    • As I mentioned in my other thread, I've had two existing matches jump from Suggested "-" to Suggested "2nd Cousin", even though neither has a longest cM of even 10 cM.

My father's kit had a 3rd jump to 2nd, with apparently trivial changes to the match numbers.

Also, 80% of my father is missing from Chromosome Browser, although he still matches as Parent/Child in the match list.

It's difficult to have much faith in the results at the moment....

      • All of my old matches are back as of today and thankfully I can tell who is new and who isn't. Last week, when my pages returned I had 14, today I have 19

          • I feel so good! As if the robber has given back something he has stolen and it is of no value to him!

            My FF:
All 8 speculative were gone with Build 37
Out of the 8 speculative relatives - 7 are back. The one out was with longest block 8.13cM
I have noticed that for the remaining 7 matches the values for the longest block have not changed but the total shared cM has.

            My father's FF:
All 2 were gone with Build 37
The previous 2 speculative relatives are back plus 2 new speculative, none of these 4 appear on my FF page

            My husband's FF:
Out of 1 distant and 11 speculative, only 1 speculative remained with Build 37.
Now all are back with no new additions.

            My aunt's FF:
Out of 13 speculative only 1 remained with Build 37.
Now all are back plus 1 new - i.e. 14 speculative matches. We share 2 of the speculative matches, just as before.

            • My single match has now disappeared

When this all started, I got my first match with shared cM of 22.48 and longest block of 17.03. Suggested relationship was 4th cousin (range of 2-5).

This match has now disappeared, so it's all a bit confusing.

                • Well I don't have faith in any of it right now.

I lost 16 including several that are a match at 23andMe.
I gained 64 most, but by no means all, of whom have matched me at some time in the past.

All with no ameliorating announcement that I could see... darned poor customer relations if you ask me. (not that anyone did.. LOL)

I have to agree with you. When we first lost our matches, FT-DNA gave the excuse that the matches lost simply did not meet the new stricter criteria. [Of course, 23andMe has much stricter criteria, but I had 10 times as many matches with that service.] Now, that FT-DNA has supposedly fixed its problems, all if not most of my "speculative" matches are back. I am now up by about 20 matches compared to what I had prior to the Build 36 to Build 37 upgrade.

FT-DNA has hurt its own credibility. It needs to work hard to getting it back.

                    • As expected FTDNA came through!!!!

All of my lost matches are back and plus some new ones!!!!!!! As expected FTDNA came through.

Not surprised at all!!!! FTDNA is still the best in the DNA Genealogical business in my opinion.

                      • I've been a big defender of FTDNA, but the issue for me is whether this is all reliable, and I'm far from convinced at this point. I've lost a couple of definitely good matches and have gotten a lot of noise restored to my account, as well as weird, inexplicable changes in cM size for shared blocks – back roughly to Build 36 in most cases, including ones where the initial upgrade showed significant shifts. What to believe?????

I'm not happy and am going to need a lot more explanation before I trust these new results, except in the most general sense.

Time will tell. I am exactly back at the same point before any of this occurred. So I am quite comfortable and convinced. However it's expected others may not feel the same.

                          • I got my 5th cousin back and my son got my 3rd once removed cousin back.

So far the only oddities are that my son has two non-AJ Southern matches that showed up 4/2/2013. They are anomalies because they would have to be on MY side, through my non-Jewish mother who had Scotch-Irish close ancestors in Virginia. Of course one never knows but they look to be noise that got introduced in this last tweak.

I spoke too soon. The two seemingly non-AJ matches to my son match a lot of AJ. With surnames and locales that are seemingly very Protestant

                            • That 3rd once removed cousin is MY side and with a great paper trail but matches my son and not me on FTDNA. I can nearly bet good money that he will match me too on Gedmatch.

                              • Most of our significant matches have stayed and not disappeared but my sister and I had a fairly new match that both of us shared and was predicted around 80-90 cm shared. I emailed the match when they were still there but I never got a response to know how they might or if they are related. 80-90 cm is not in the range of noise so did they just mess up entirely on this match? Or did this match loose all their matches?
