No matches & Backbone

15 days ago (may 13), I finally got my Y-DNA67 results from batch 560: No matches, and Y-DNA Haplogroup Pending.

7 days ago (may 21), Y-HAP-Backbone is automatically ordered on batch 571. I believe this is some kind of FTDNA courtesy in order to refine my test result? Will the Backbone test bring me any matches or is it just for Haplogroup detection?

Today (may 28), it no longer says Haplogroup Pending, I now have a predicted Haplogroup: R-M512. What is this based on? The Backbone test is supposed to take 5-9 more weeks. According to the "Haplogroup Predictor" at hprg.com/hapest5, my Haplogroup is 100% R1a. I calculated this two weeks ago when I first got the result, howcome FTDNA needed two weeks? Is R-M512 the same as R1a?

Can I join any Project based on my predicted Haplogroup or should I wait for the Backbone result? If so, which Project is suitable for R-M512?

Finally, is it normal not to have any matches on a 67 markers test? What does it really mean, that nobody on the same linage over the last thousand years or so did a Y-DNA test here at FTDNA?

I cannot answer all your questions but not having matches is not unusual . I have never had an exact match even at 12 markers for over three years. I have only had a handful of GD 1 matches at 12 markers but none at all after that. This is due to not having many people test from continental Europe .
I know that FTDA cannot give an exact haplogroup based on STR testing. They can only predict , and consequently they predict conservatively

You may have a str marker or two off the average R1a subclade for them to confidently predict, therefore they are running backbone test.
My father had this happen, he has no exact 12 marker matches, all surnames matches at this level have a GD of 1 or greater. Yet his paternal 1st cousin(same yDNA) has 16 exact matches at 12 markers and just was given a predicted haplogroup.

If backbone test is complete when you click on Haplotree and SNP's on your homepage, the page it brings you to should say near the top Your Confirmed Haplogroup is ____

I believe R-M512 is R1a1a, a few branches further into the R1a subclade.

I believe I read somewhere that FamilyTreeDNA will always assign their paying customers a confirmed Haplogroup. Am I THAT rare? Will they submit my DNA for another Backbone test?

Until recently, your M198+ result would have been considered proof of membership in R1a1a, and you would have been listed as confirmed R-M198.

However, FTDNA now suspects that M198 has occurred one other time in human history (in haplogroup G, I think). Hence, M198+ by itself is no longer considered proof of haplogroup.

Instead, FTDNA's classification algorithm also looks at your STR (marker) matches. If the matches line up for R1a1a, then you are predicted to be R1a1a also. If your haplotype (marker pattern) is very unusual, you remain unpredicted ("pending").

The R1a1a and Subclades Project has 10 members who tested M198+ but are still unpredicted. We have not yet received word as to whether FTDNA will run an additional free test or not.

True, at the Y-DNA Haplotree page, M198 appears also at the G part, and it's also green in my case.

Should I order any additional SNPs to get it sorted out? Who should I contact in order to get recommendation on additional SNP tests?

On the project page, on the "Y-DNA Colorized Chart", I've been included in a group with 13 others and in the title for this group it says (Big Y under lab procedure).

As far as I know, this is not certain. I surely haven't paid for it, and checking my Order history, there's nothing about a Big Y test. Strange, isn't it?

This means that you appear to cluster with the 13 others; and that at least one cluster member has ordered the Big Y. Of course, to define a cluster precisely as a clade, we really need at least two Big Y tests.

Oh okay, I get it. Big Y seems a bit too expensive at the moment. I chose to just order a CTS4179 test, Michal is convinced this will be a positive test and it would be more interesting to order a YP386 test, however this SNP is still not available for testing at FTDNA.
