  • No Haplogroup Origins Matches with my Haplogroup

I've taken the 37 marker Y-DNA test from FTDNA and have some questions about the Haplogroup Origins results. I have 16 12-marker matches at a genetic distance of 1. 15 of those are I1 and 1 of them is I1D1. My haplogroup is I-M170+ P37.2- M253- M223-. I don't have any matches at any other level.

Is it odd that all of my matches are I1 when I tested negative for I1 and that I have no matches for any other haplogroup?

Frankly I find that entire feature (haplogroup origins) odd.
However ,having said that , one could expect some near matches from other subclades at that level of testing.

Incidently I belong to the extremely large group of R1-L21. I have a handful of 1 step matches at 12 markers and nothing at at all at other marker levels.

This is probably due to fact that each subgroup of I has the same STR marker values (or very close) at the 12 marker level.

If you look in the I haplogroup projects you may see this on their results pages.

I suppose this makes sense. I've been playing around with Whit Athey's Haplogroup Predictor and up to 16 markers it's saying that I'm 99.8% probable for I1. After entering DYS455 it drops down to 33.1%.

It would be interesting if you turned out to be the I* closest to I1.

Are your markers posted in a project or on Ysearch?

I actually just tested L39+, so I guess I'm I2B2. There's still no I2 in the 12 Marker Haplogroup Origins, but there is now a J2. Here're my markers on YSearch.

I believe both of those users are in the same sub-group as me (L533+) in the I2a2b L38+ project. Aren't 5 and 6 pretty distant though?

                  this was getting interesting

I am totally new 2016 and was looking forward to learning. That is why I wound up here.

"I" has some pretty small groups...

Bo--- Some I2A clades can be pretty thinly represented... my nearest match using BigY and yFull has a TMCRA of 500AD, give or take (I-P37.2*Alpine, AKA I-Y11049)
