Have you ever broke ground on finding a new distant cousin on your tree and you become excited at the possibility of meeting him but mostly because you want to see if that person will Y-test so you can find out the haplogroup of an ancestor?

Yes! I am seeing a case where there are multiple people with the paper trail to the same ancestor, yet they all have different haplogroups. Lack of testers is an issue in this case. I may have found a distant enough person to solve the mystery of which haplogroup is the correct one for this specific ancestor.
