  • Ydna match question

I did the Y67 several years ago and there are no matches with my surname. At 67, I get several GD6 and 7's with other surnames. No matches at 37.

But when I go into the McGill surname project and stare at the results, there is one kit (126052) that looks very similar to me (316867) . When I run the YDNA grouping app that someone posted in these forums, I get a Genetic Distance of 6.

Why doesn't this kit come up on the match suggestions from ftdna? My guess is that it has to do with his privacy settings.

I'd like to contact this person, but I can't find any contact info.

Also, the email of the project administrator does not work and the project has not been updated in a long time. I'd be willing to help out.

Which level of markers are you comparing?
Each level has a different GD cap allowed

My opinion is that if somebody is y-dna match on some marker level, he is also match on less markers level. But if we go to bigger marker levels the GD grows. For example one guy have Y-67 GD 4 with some other guy. And level Y-111 GD is 10.

If the other sample has FF-match to you, there is a letter on list. And pressing it you can send him or her a email. I think that FTDNA have no possibilities to send emails to individual person who is not in any relationship with you.

BTW. I had FF-match who was 4th cousin to me. I encouraged him to take y-dna test. He took Y-67. Now we are Y-67 matches GD=3.

prairelad. At 67 markers, distance=all, I have 42 matches, all GD 6 and 7. None with my surname.
          At 37, I have 0 matches.
At 25, i have 6 matches, all GD 2, none with my surname.
At 12 Markers, I have 51 matches, GD 0 and 1. none with my surname.

I don't have my family finder results yet.

i got 111 markers, i have never had a surname match, not one, but i have had 1000's of another name match and some as been as close as 110 markers out of 111. The other name are all the same but its not mine. For I am the bastard child. someway around 1850 an unmarried madian keep the family surname instead of the sperm donor.

You are matching him on only 31 out of 37 markers so that is not a match. A match at 37 markers would require at least 33 markers in common.
