  • "Predicted Haplogroup K-M9" after backbone testing

My backbone results aren't due until 5/27, but I noticed today that there was a "Predicted Haplogroup" on my homepage, and that group is K-M9 (totally unexpected). The results page still lists completion as "pending." In the "Haplotree and SNPs" section, K-M9 is listed in brown, for "presumed positive."

    1. After backbone testing, shouldn't the haplogroup be green for confirmed? Maybe I have to wait longer.

    2. From what I've read, K-M9 is the haplogroup that gave rise to L, M, N, O, and P. How common is it to be in an undifferentiated haplogroup?

    3. Is it possible that FTDNA didn't test any deeper than K and that the actual haplogroup is L, M, N, O, or P? If that's the case, I would not be happy =/

If anyone else is in K-M9, please let me know! I haven't been able to find much online.

Sorry, just double checked and K-M9's descendants are MNOPS, not LMNOP (I got caught up in the alphabet...). Along with LT and Paragroup K* according to Wikipedia.

Thank you for posting that you got back your results. I just looked and mine are there, too. I probably wouldn't have looked at that tab without seeing your post first. Thanks.

        twiglette,

You're getting a prediction as a result of the Y-DNA Haplotree update today, not because the backbone test is done. Once the backbone test is done, you'll get the green confirmed haplogroup.

There are a still a couple glitches in some of the backbone predictions after the haplotree update, though. So I'm curious -- do you have any matches listed on your Haplogroup Origins page? And if so, which haplogroup(s)?

        Elise

          Thanks for replying Elise.

I'll keep checking for that confirmation!

I actually don't have any Y-DNA matches from FTDNA. Through Y-Search, the closest matches have haplogroups O and L, albeit with a genetic distance of >4.

          From Whit Athey's predictor:

          L 45 56.2
          O2 29 1.1
          O3 45 41.1
          T 30 1.6
          (All other groups = 0)

Can you send me your kit number? Either here or by private message, whatever you're comfortable with.

You actually shouldn't be getting a prediction if you have no matches at all -- that's why the backbone test was needed before, and still is. So I'll have engineering look into why/how you are getting a prediction right now.

            Thanks,
            Elise

Can you look at mine too? I don't have any matches at all, but have a prediction before the Backbone test is completed. My kit is B4636.

Nope, don't mind at all! Kit number is 332913.

                  Help please

I also have a predicted haplogroup as described by the others. My kit number is 334309. Could you look at this as well. The haplogroup I have is rm124 and I think I have Indian ancestors so if it really is this group although only predicted would be very interesting.

It also says results completed today and is showing a new against matches but there are none.

                  Many thanks

Actually, it turns out that you do have a match on your Haplogroup Origins page, at a Genetic Distance of 1. This match is what is enabling you to get a prediction now.

At 12 markers, matches with a Genetic Distance of 1 will only show up on your Matches page if you are both in the same project.

Reported. It may be correct, but usually precictions are based on SNP-tested matches, and your Haplogroup Origins page doesn't show any. I'm wondering if perhaps the prediction algorithm was adjusted to use internal data that doesn't show on Haplogroup Origins. I'll ask on Monday.

It also says results completed today and is showing a new against matches but there are none.
Thanks, I'll report those too. I believe the Results Completed date is reflecting the date that the prediction was marked as complete in the system, but it probably should be showing the Y12 completion date instead.

On the first screen after I login, it shows that I have new matches for Y-DNA, but when I click the button, no matches are there. If I'm understanding you correctly, that match is not showing up because he/she is not in the I-M223 project. Is that correct? Any other additional info would be appreciated, including advice of what training video's I should check out on Y-DNA.

                            Thanks.
