I compared ged files from a person in my Y-DNA search matching 25. I found our common ancestor 8 generations back however the match was with my mothers ancestors. Why am I getting matched to people in my mothers line with y-DNA? I was not able to find the same person whom I matched using Family Finder search. It seems I'm getting autosomal DNA matches in my Y-DNA searches.... Why?

The match you found is not the match determined by your YDNA test results. It sounds like your mother's line married into your fathers line at more than one point in history. Did this other tester do a an MtDNA test as well? If so, you might want to consider taking that test yourself.

Yes, just a coincidence. If you're in the U.S. and your family has been here for generations, at any given time, you could be standing next to an 8th cousin in line at the grocery store or the bank, etc. Distant cousins are everywhere! So, no real surprise to find one related to both your mother and your father. In fact, for many, mother and father may be 8th cousins to one another!
Did your Y-DNA match actually take the Family Finder test? Check their profile to see if FF is listed. Although, you're only going to match a very small percentage of 8th cousins, so he probably still wouldn't show up as a match.
